cameron backtracks on immigration ban...the AA grumpy column

Post by AA grumpy »

hello..well here we are again its sunday night the cocoa,s poured the choccy digestives are out and cameron,s in the EU doghouse again.

David Cameron dropped plans to put a cap on the number of EU immigrants allowed into Britain after being ‘sat on’ by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a former minister said today.

The Prime Minister announced last week that he would ban migrants from claiming benefits for four years after moving to Britain. But he failed to include a controversial ‘emergency break’ on migration if the benefit cuts did not lead to a fall in the number of EU workers moving to the UK.

Former Environment Secretary Owen Paterson today said he did not think Mr Cameron could ‘deliver’ even his watered-down pledge. He said: ‘It looks as if we’ve already been sat on by the Germans.’

In a further blow to Mr Cameron – just days after his set-piece immigration speech – leading Eurosceptic Tories will now table a bill on Wednesday to override the EU’s principle of free movement of workers.

It comes amid claims 200 Tory MPs want to leave the European Union. Tory veteran Sir Bill Cash has warned that at least two thirds of the 303 Conservatives in the Commons now want to leave.

Mr Paterson – a leading Tory favouring Britain’s exit from the EU – told the Prime Minister he had to ‘deliver’ on his promise to cut benefits for migrants.

He added: ‘It’s quite clearly impossible for a country like ours to absorb 260,000 new immigrants net every year, it’s putting a terrible strain on public services and causing real social problems.’

‘This is a real pressing problem. We cannot go into long, rambling negotiations with the European Union, particularly if they’re not going to play ball He described the current situation as a ‘fork in the road’.

It comes amid claims that Britain could be forced to pay benefits to even more migrants despite Mr Cameron’s speech.

Officials in Brussels last night confirmed that the European Commission is taking legal action to make Britain lift existing restrictions that prevent some migrants claiming child benefit and child tax credit in the UK.

The news comes just days after David Cameron pledged to cut handouts in a bid to reduce soaring immigration.

The case at Europe’s highest court will further anger the public and politicians who have called on the Government to tighten up Britain’s generous welfare system and make the country a less attractive destination for would-be immigrants.

David Cameron takes tough stance on immigration

German chancellor Angela Merkel allegedly vetoed plans by David Cameron to impose a cap on the number of EU migrants allowed in to Britain each year If Britain loses, it will either have to change the law to allow jobless migrant families to claim child benefit, or face paying millions in fines.

Latest figures show 24,000 families are currently claiming child benefit of at least £89 a month for 38,500 children living abroad, at an estimated cost of £30 million a year, while 4,000 claim child tax credit.

On Friday, the Prime Minister pledged to end the ‘exporting’ of child benefit, as well as to ban migrant workers from claiming tax credits until they have worked in the UK for four years.

Last night Nigel Mills, one of the Conservative backbenchers demanding a tough limit on EU migrants, said: ‘Free movement is about the right to work, not the right to claim benefits. The EU should accept our rules are the will of the British people and Parliament.

well i think thats the tories election down the pan before a vote is cast

who,s going to believe david camerons pledge now for a in / out vote in 2017 if he is elected next year.

camerons policies are all smoke and mirrors as he will dance to the EU ,s tune of a united states of europe because he,s just an EU puppet with the EU pulling the strings.

and what right has german angela merkell to interfere in british politics and tell us what we should be doing regarding immigration.

its absolute madness that immigrants can be paid £89 a month even though they dont even live in this country and exactely how far does £89 a month go in poor countries like romania or bulgaria it would practicely feed the whole family

so the tax payer is effectively going to work to feed a romanian family for nothing a month yet our own are squeezed by every money grabbing dodge the tories can think up while working familes struggle to get by some relying on the food bank.

its time to put our own house in order feed and house our homeless and hungry rather than give it all away to johnny foreigner

personelly i think ukip will possibly romp in to number 10 in may as the electroate punish labour and the tories and wipe the lib dems from the political map.

but the million quid question is will like a pint nigel be the new broom that sweeps clean and sticks 2 fingers up to the EU and the germans or are we just going to get knock off nigel who renages on his promises if he gets elected

Are you talking about Nigel Farage........the anti EU Politician who receives his wages directly from the hated EU ? Farages wages

I wouldn't put too much faith in that one mush.............Did you know how much he suggested our own home grown MP's could earn......IF we left the EU ? Wages he wants?

Why would he want such a cut in wages ?

The three leaders broke the vow they made to the scottish people a week before the referendum - was anyone daft enough to believe them? Clearly some were the lib dems are out of it, labour and the tories are both going down the pan.

As to the eu and people claiming benefits the british government could have curtailed benefits any tome they wanted to they do in other countries just ask any expat working in the eu how hard it is to claim.

So don't blame the eu for the failings of our governments.

eta... however, I never believed In all my days, I'd see a debate where nuns and the EDL came Into the same topic.

Such is the strain of political world issues.

At least when we get terrorists parachuting in dressed as nuns you'll be able to say the BNP told us about it first. Hang on, wasn't that story broken in WW2?

Have you not noticed the similarities? They have the same insane origin in middle eastern religion it's not just muslims that used to insist women cover up, denied them human rights and treated them as inferior to men. Eve's curse pervades our culture.

There Is absolutely nothing In the Holy Qua'ran that states women must cover their faces... It's a concept brought about by Sharia law to keep women oppressed. Their argument Is that It stops men being attracted to women and children. I have a better Idea... why don't they just keep It In their pants?
