Gays success

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, an area known to always have been more tolerant toward Gay Folks than many other parts of the country. I have hired and worked with a number of Gays and have Gay Friends. I am wondering why it is that so many of my Gay friends have reached such high levels of success, not just in terms of income, but in terms of fame as well. Far more than any of my Straight friends or aquaintences or my self. Is it because they have something to prove to them selves and others? I don't know. I am not a psychologist. What is your thinking on this? :-2

Perhaps Lon is it cuz they have experienced what's it like to be judged and therefore have set their expectations of themselves higher bringing a more management environment forward and being more open with employees and their issues. So I agree, I think they are trying to prove that your sexual preferences doesn't make a difference in the business world and they strive hard to be successful. Nothing wrong with being yourself.

I think it's more a matter of there being a much higher proportion of Gays than you might otherwise think, and the number of Gays in such positions is probably proportionate to the population in general.

There is also the matter of tolerance, but the stigma that used to be there still remains to a great extent, although this is rapidly changing. After all, who would have thought that in many of our own lifetimes, not only has Homosexuality moved on from being illegal (yes, to our younger members, it used to be illegal), to this more enlightened age where Gay Marriages are now becoming legally recognised in many countries.

'Coming Out Of The Closet' is still a major step, even now, and many Closet Gays can feel that their positions in their Social & Business Circles may be affected if they were to come out but, thankfully, this is becoming increasingly easier & more acceptable to do. However, in many cases, the ones that tend to feel most comfortable in coming out are those that have reached the stage where they are in a position that is secure enough to do so.

Although this is changing, most gay male couples do not have the expense of children, & are free to use their income in other ways.

No Lon, It's not because they have something to prove.. Gays are people just like you and me... they have the same aspirations, ambition and a desire to succeed just as any straight business person.
