How was your life in 2014?

Post by High Threshold »

One of the worst. 2014 was the year I was told to empty all of pockets, remove my wrist-watch and my wedding ring and got tossed into a cell. I was kept there for about 2 hours but without a watch I had no idea how long it was. I suffer from claustrophobia and pnigerophobia and I didn't know if I could survive the experience. Although the police were efficient and professional, the jailer was most certainly not. He treated me like a hardened criminal, shouted at me threatened me and had no sympathy for my condition. I asked for a glass of water and he insulted me up one end and down the other for not thinking about it before he locked me up. How should I know? Later, I asked to go pee and that's when he really got nasty,. He shouted, “..................... ! and refused to let me out. I pissed on the floor between my feet and tried to mop it up with my socks. I am 67 and I have never been inside any police station in my life. It was a traumatic experience for me. The crime I was charged with? A very minor offence on the strength of someone else's testimony. Innocent. The verdict - mid January.

Life was good and bad in 2014. The good part is that I finally managed to retire and I now get to do the things I want to, the bad part I'd rather not go into.

It was the best of times; it was the worst of times. The first 8 months was preparing for my son's wedding--scary yet incredibly exciting & happy. I was steady for about 2 months after that (one very fun thing, I met Bruv!); then, in November, fell into one of the worst depressions of my life.

I guess I have to say it was an extraordinary year, so despite how I presently feel I will vote Good; which barely explains it.

It started with the same old same old. Then on my birthday Da Beasty got pinched. Then I kept getting hounded by the pratts at A4E until eventually, despite their advice, I got the job that I'm in now as from the end of September (ironically working for A4E's biggest rival).

Also this year I've earned about $38 in Royalties of music I've written. Not much in numbers, I grant you, but a massive amount to my self esteem just to know that some people have thought enough of it to dip in their pockets & pay for it.

My wife pointedly reminded me that two of my uncles passed this year. But they were fairly old, and is final stages of dementia, and their passing was a relief, both to themselves and their caregivers. So, I didn't count them.

Hmmm. Didn't count them. That's probably why they got dementia in the first place. Just kidding.

They were both really great people, and I miss them a lot. But I have missed them for several years, so their physical passing was more of a footnote, it seems.

Truly, a sad perspective. I hope that when I go, it is all at once.

Adding together the pluses and minuses I suppose this was an above average year, my still being alive being at the top of the list.......and that can never be bad.

The other highlights being a trip to the USA, lunch with Anne Boleyn beside Central Park, onward to meet my American grandson for the first time and see my daughter after ten years, lunch in an American diner with LarsMac, and a pastrami on rye from Katz Deli NY City, what more could a person want ?

How was your life in 2014?

Post by LarsMac »

Well the year closed with a trip to The South to visit family.

Except for one day, driving through Atlanta during a huge storm system, the trip was great fun and lots of family time, a 50th wedding anniversary, three birthdays, Christmas with family, and the birth of a new grand nephew on Christmas Day.

We were delayed on the return a couple of days, due to weather and celebrated the New Year sleeping the sleep of the exhausted, at a hotel in central Kansas.

Not an entirely bad way to ring in the new year, I think.

Began the new year driving across Kansas, on a chilly, but otherwise unremarkable day. The last hour of our trip, however, was met with blizzard conditions, which broke just north of the Denver airport, and we were greeted with a beautiful view of the Colorado Rockies, gleaming in the sun.

We will remember 2014 as a good year.

Perhaps your senses are stretched. You don't think you are taking it too personally? Anyway, there doesn't appear to be much of a membership to begin with, in numbers I mean. Taking that into consideration and just wild-guessing, "a small segment" couldn't be more than 6 or 7 tops.

My comments relate only to two members who have often enough stated their deliberate bullying intention to make ForumGarden an impossible place for me to post. Those who have been here long enough know perfectly well who I'm talking about. There is no active account on this site which has spot as its username.

Why should it worry anybody here, if Mr. FG doesn't feel like baring his soul to the world and his wife, then that is surely, his prerogative is it not ? I wouldn't take it personally !

So come on Tyr, you're teasing all the others, tell 'em all you 'ad quite a moving experience - it must 'ave changed your life somewhat ! Now that'll probably make them itch a bit more !

Joking apart, I hope all is OK, FG.

Oh and by the way, my year was ............................... well it was ! :wah: :lips:

OK. So now I have to ask. A member (or members) is making life difficult for the admin. And the other members too? Right, if a member doesn't follow the rules you toss them out. If they return (and continue to misbehave) you toss them out again ¦.. or in the IT world I suppose you know who it is even before they have a chance to make trouble and you toss them out immediately? So far I can't see what the problem is even if they get slanderous. I deal with slander every day on YouTube. I'm not bothered by it. Should I then assume that these members are infecting the Forum with nasty viruses? THAT I can understand is a big problem. Is that what it's all about? I just can't see simple misbehaving being such a headache that it can ruin your year or cause sleepless nights. Weak character might be the problem in that case.

No problems, life is going along well, except for my garden.

I am new to this gardening thing. Not rocket science but in the past three years done well.

Last year had killer frost, more than once. In June took an OTR job. Couldn't resist. Two weeks or so driving in western states.

Who knew in two weeks the yard would go all to hell. My garden swelled with weeds.

Though it took a toll on the garden, it was just a lot of work for the rest of the yard.

Thinking about it, if that is the worse that happened, been a pretty good year.

Good point.

In this case they are unsightly and harmful to my garden.

I mean, these weeds grow tall and don't stop.
