Beards.....
Has anyone noticed beards are back in fashion ?
The 'I got up late and can't be bothered' look, with the dirty stubble, is still there, but the full beard and variations on it are now de rigueur.
I have noticed young men now sporting full sets of facial hair to rival George V, even footballers who are trend setters have adopted the look.
I have spotted several distinguished moustaches on young men too.
The style that particularly amuses me most is the shaven headed full bushy beard look...................is this fashion trend influenced from the middle east ?

I can't stand the "Designer Stubble" look. As far as I'm concerned it just makes them look as if all they need is a mangy mutt & a sign saying "Homeless & Hungry" (with a hoard of cans of lager by their side & packets of cigarettes).
I've had a beard since I was 13. At first it was a Full Beard, but later developed into the more distinguished Half Beard (chin & moustache) that it is now.
I know what you mean about the bushy beard I bald head look. It puts me in mind of those comic book characters that you can turn upside down.

I didn't start mine quite that young but it has been in place for over forty years - ever since the night we were burgled and the thieves stole, amongst much else, my shaver.

I love the five o'clock shadow look on guys.
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

I've had a full beard or a van dyke since the end of my military stint, 1968.

It would seem we are ALL trend setters...........I have a droopy moustache and had a full beard for several years, the tache is the result of fear of that bloated looking top lip I have seen on other's after they shave it all off.

I agree. It's as pretentious as a rock band at a live concert prompting the audience to clap their hands.

I'm afraid I'm not a fan of facial hair. However, I tolerate full beards with the attendant moustache, my son has let his goatee beard develop into a full beard and I'm not sure that I like it very much. It makes him look about 10 years older ! :wah:
I simply loathe the '5 o'clock shadow' fashion that seems to be an ongoing thing. Men who have this 'designer stubble' just look dirty to me. It also feels like sand paper, so those that tolerate this fashion, or even like it, can't really be involved in a close relationship with a fella who has a stubbly face. After a while the poor woman has a red raw face !
Gary Lineker, who hosts the 'Match Of The Day' football programme on BBC TV, has decided to let his whiskers grow round his face. When he started, it really looked as if he should blow/wipe his nose as it looked really gross !
Also, a lot of men do not bother to go and wash their beard and moustache after they have eaten anything, and that of course is a revolting thought - old bits of stale food stuck amongst the whiskers ! :-5 Yuk !!!!!
No wonder I'm not keen on facial hair on men. Although I hasten to add that my son does wash his facial whiskers after each meal.

I have worn a mustache since I was discharged from the Army. Never been into the beard thing. Did grow one once back when all my hair was the same color. I didn't keep it all that long.
Last year got to thinking, Kansas winters are so cold and a freshly shaven face is cold, so why shave? Also, I thought it would be interesting to see how the grey is progressing up my face.
A nephew calls me the Mountain Man, a brother says it is proof of the existence of Big Foot.
OH BTW, come spring I'm shaving. Maybe let it grow again next winter.

I don't know about gate keepers. That maybe common in your neck of the woods, but unheard of here.
No doubt the most famous lawman in Kansas.
Wild Bill Hickok.
Not a guy I would want to cross.

And I always thought it was the same character, all part of the pretence that he was an all masterful Wizard, but was running a one man operation.
