New HIV strain

Post by Bruv »

In Cuba, a variant of HIV that is much more aggressive than other known forms of the virus has been documented. Patients infected with this new variant progress to AIDS so rapidly that they may not even know they are infected, with AIDS symptoms occurring within 3 years of infection.

That's all the world needs yet another deadly aggressive virus.
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

Doesn't it seem a tiny bit suspect that this should come to light at the same time that Obama seeks to re-establish relations with Cuba?

I don't know if 'suspect' is the word I'd use, but 'curious' certainly. Are you suggesting something, Mr. Part?

I just have my doubts as to whether or not it's really a co-incidence, when there are still those who would choose to undermine Obama's historic act of reconcilliation by turning to any degree of scaremongery.

Just how would that be done, & in so short a time? Rather, it might be all those foreign tourists who have been coming to Cuba for decades. Find Patient Zero.

I think he's suggesting that the reported new strain is the scaremongering and that there was no patient zero.

We also looked at a new smartphone accessory purportedly capable of diagnosing HIV and syphilis from one finger prick of blood within 15 minutes. This accessory - or "dongle" - has been piloted among health care workers in Rwanda, with 97% of patients recommending the device. With a manufacturing cost of just $34, the dongle is much more affordable than the standard forms of diagnostic testing, which typically cost $18,450.

Technology today...it boggles the mind.

Time to begin discrediting the health care system of Cuba?
