What a legacy this man will leave someday.

Every time I think of carter I think of him being attacked by the rabbit. :wah: ... and his brother billie.:lips:

But for all he was depicted as a joke while in office, the guy has done a lot since leaving office.

Actually, I always liked Jimmy Carter. He came across as being unpretentious which, I think, was what his rivals focused on.

Two things killed it for Jimmy. 1) the American hostages in Iran & 2) [especially for me] his bringing back draft registration to show how "tough" he was in response to not being able to free them.

The second, if you don't mind the personal anecdote, caused the University of Wisconsin, Madison to hold a demonstration. A photo of my husband, me & our new baby is in their archives, as a sign stuck out of the carriage (I was holding baby) proclaiming JOIN THE PEOPLE, NOT THE ARMY.

He'll be better thought of by his humanitarian efforts after he was President than his actual presidency.

I agree. I think he has done much more to improve the world since leaving the white house than he ever did while in. Certainly much more than any other president I can think of.

Not many of the better Presidents survived long enough to do anything after their terms - if they even survived to the end of their terms at all.
