Leslie Gore RIP

Post by Bruv »

Singer-songwriter and actress Lesley Gore, who topped the charts in the Sixties with It's My Party, has died of cancer. She was 68.

One of the sounds of my youth.

Oh no. When I was a pre-teen, I saw her on stage more than a few times, and on television, of course. Her songs still come up in my head "It's my party & I'll cry if I want to............." her best known. "And now it's Judy's turn to cry.................'cause Johnny came back To Me."

A teen girl's angst. Oh, Bruv, our group is starting to drop like flies............every day it's someone else from our youth.

As long as it's them and not us, we are still winning.

I'll never forget it. My mother didn't understand the lyrics from the radio. That is to say she couldn't hear exactly what Leslie was saying - so I told her, “It's my party ¦. you'd cry too if it happened to you to which my mother replied, “Yes, I probably would.

I had to look that up.

I have always thought insurance was a necessary evil, tontines are just evil.

Not necessarily. It all depends on the rules set down in the tontine. For instance, it could be that the last surving member of the tontine gets to choose which charity the funds go to. What's so evil about that?

That would apply without any conditions.

My dislike of insurance still applies.................you put aside money in case the very worse happens to you or yours.......the insurance companies grow richer and richer based on personal disasters, then when you are at your lowest point, they trail through the small print for a get out clause.

I was always taught that the difference between Life Insurance & Life Assurance is that Life Insurance is "In Case" you die. Life Assurance is "When" you die, yet all the TV adverts for Life Insurance, as per the terms set in their conditions are, in fact, Life Assurance & are usually no more than Glorified Savings Plans. Are they not a form of tontine?

Whatever they call it the insured or assured drip their hard earned money into a large pot that the companies then lend (they call it invest) to the same people at exorbitant rates of interest (because thats the system) for every day things..............like homes....or cars........which other industries are geared up to scoop the cream off the top to fill their coffers so they can lend it again and again, making bigger and bigger profits out of other's sweat.

I am clever enough to see the system is flawed, but not clever enough to know what it needs to sort it out.
