How To Deal With Spam Calls

Post by FourPart »

We were talking at work today about different ways to deal with Spam Calls. My colleague, Vanessa, gave me one that her Daughter does that made me laugh. She just hands the phone over to her 3 year old daughter to let her talk to them, knowing how kids love to talk on phones & apparently she is worse than most, not letting anyone get a word in edgeways.

The Mrs seeing my anger and annoyance tried to help by lessons like this,

As much as I like to goof with them, and don't feel like dealing with them at all. Best I done was pretend to beat my dog and walk away.
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

I sometimes see how long I can put them on hold. Every few minutes I get back to them and as they start their spiel I say "sorry got another call coming in" put them on hold again.

I just hang up. Sometimes I might say "Do not call list" & then they hang up on me.

I like to hit the * button for a really long time
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Folks who'd like to copy my intellectual work should expect to pay me for it.:-6

We have an anti-spammer service in Sweden called "Nix". It costs nothing and it is effective against all telephone spammers nationally.

With regards the spammers and scammers from India however, I honestly don't think ANYTHING helps. I began (like most) being civil. No help. I then tried simply putting the receiver down. No help. Then I watched a number of “how to's on YouTube. Lots of fun but no help. I then started being excessively abusive, using language that I would normally never use ¦.. four-letter-words, racial slurs, downright filthy language, often imitating the Indian accent. Also, not very much helping. It's been almost a year now since the last time they badgered me. I reckon they work in geographic rotation. They'll be back again.

The thing is that there is no police cooperation/agreement between India and “the west. So that even if you could trace the caller to a specific address (you can, by the way) there is no western jurisdiction in order to arrest them. Consequently, if you try the method of verbal abuse and racial slander, the fellow on the other end of the line can do nothing about that either ¦. though he may very well threaten legal action. Too bad though - he's stuffed. ;)

But .....

.... wouldn't it be great if it were this easy?!

Some of the callers can't disconnect unless you put the phone down just leave it lying for a half hour or so, costs them money that way. Seems to work best with those automated calls that you get. Longest I've left one for was an hour and a half while I went out with the dog.

An hour and a half! I'm sure the dog appreciated the extra hour and 15. :wah:

We have the same thing in the U.K - TPS (Telephone Preference Service) - the same thing (MPS) for Mail - although the Mail one only protects the addressee at a certain address & not "The Occupier / Resident / Householder", etc.

We also have the same problem here. When it comes to Offshore Call Centres they are outside our laws. However, I do see a really simple solution. If we can't block the Offshore Call Centres, we could, at least, prosecute U.K. companies that use them.

Not yet - but I don't see any reason why such a law can't be introduced.

Oh, I can see many reasons why such a law cannot be introduced ..... none of them particularly democratic but all of them following the trend we have before us.

It is for that reason that although I posted it on my FaceBook, I only Shared it with my U.K. Friends.

I was just thinking that if I could help you get it started over there that it might catch on over here too. :)
