The 24hour franchise also seems to be missing from the Interweb. Far/Basco's madchatters was resurrected in 2010 by a different group but now appears moribund. RR had three tries under different domains before sinking for the final time.

Looking through my first three paragraphs I can only see two misleading comments and one outright inaccuracy, I usually manage more than that when starting a thread.

EA shut down several years ago, I don't believe there's another host for it. I lost interest in RR about a week after discovering them so... no idea. 24Hour is still there, the last post was by Shimmy in March wishing everyone a Happy Saint Patrick's Day. Far and his Madchatters can rot in hell for all I care.
What happened to that troll forum run by the woman with the penchant for iguanas?

There was a great moment in time back in 2005 for around a year when FG rocked. No spin off could ever recreate that, just as I know FG could never recreate it either. The pub was never empty but it was all about the mix of people. Then everyone started falling out, others just got busy and moved on, just like real life really :wah:

I was sufficiently insulted in mid-2005 that I stalked off the site in high dudgeon and refused to come back for six months, so I'd have missed that bit.

I joined FG early 2007 and the 'Friends of Carol' thread was started ! It was open to all-comers and anybody taking part in the chat and banter were made most welcome. I can remember having a good deal of fun in that thread and making many friends, some of which I still have ! Unfortunately, successful as it was (we had to have a re-start because of the length of the thread, which seemed to be causing a tech problem ! ). The FOC 1 was closed and FOC 2 was started straight away. What an achievement that was !
It was what spot would call a 'fluffy' thread, I think - not everybody's cup of tea I know, but those who regularly posted became great friends online ! When altercations occurred in the latter stages of FOC 2, the thread seemed to fall apart and was wiped, in the finish. I will always have fond memories of that thread, particularly FOC 1 - great fun really, and I think it was quite a draw to Forum Garden for many people to just read and maybe have a smile. I did get the feeling that a lot of members thought that FOC was meant only for a few of us women to just natter and banter together, but they were quite wrong - FOC always had open doors to anybody to join in.
Ah well, that is in the past and in my opinion there will never be such a thread again, more's the pity, as it was quite an attraction I know from various independent comments I received through email and private messages. But life goes on and we try to keep things going, hoping folk will keep loyal and keep adding their posts. But times change things and forums also change their contents and structure, and I suppose members have to change a little bit in order to stay with it. People get older, some members leave and never return, some members die, then there are new members joining which also cause some changes in content.
Sites are for ever changing because of changes in memberships bringing new content and thinking. Sometimes for the better, but sometimes not an improvement, but whatever happens, one has to do one's best to keep a site going. My humble opinion is that any site needs a certain amount of controversy and argument, as opposed to just debate. I believe this argumentative behaviour coupled with friendly banter can give life-giving support to a site, and consequently should be allowed within reasonable bounds of decency. It is noticeable that certain members who participated in such activities are no longer around, for one reason or another, and perhaps an invitation to return by some of them could inject more oomph to the site ! It is just an observation and purely my own opinion, as far as I know.
At least one of the past members would give a certain admin apoplexy, I know, but a bit of tongue-biting on the part of admin. could make such a return a possibility ? It would help liven up a slumbering site, don't you think ? After all there were many contributions made by a certain past member which kept Forum Garden in 4th gear rather than chugging along in 1st gear, like it is doing at present. It is a fact that the more posts, and more frequently posted they are, the more 'guest' readers will be tempted to join the site because they can see it is a busy site.
You know from your own experience of checking through the internet, finding a site that has only one post added every few hours and quickly moving elsewhere, realising that the sparsely populated thread is of not much interest to you.
It is all very well having loads of debating threads, but in order to attract more membership a wider interest is needed, with different thread content to appeal to a wider readership ? Don't you think that is a much more interesting prospect ?
We used to have so many different threads and the membership participation was much bigger, as the appeal was over a much wider area of interest. At the moment the number of different threads seems to be greatly reduced compared with how it used to be, so consequently the participation is far less, as the choice of subject matter has been reduced over time.

Ah. What you're talking about is the Word Game threads, we used to have fifty or so of those constantly visible on the first page though I rarely understood how or why they were being played. The few Word Game threads I started myself were rarely attended by much excitement on the part of the membership as a whole, though they at least explained the rules in the opening post.

I can think of no ex-member under a permanent ban from the site who hasn't threatened legal action against the owner during the last year. It has been ForumGarden's policy since it first opened to enforce a permanent ban on any member or ex-member who threatens legal action in connection with the site. Do you find that unreasonable?

Actually Mr. spot, I never had those dreaded word game threads in mind, but since you brought it up, I have to say that for a while they seemed to take over FG ! I can't remember what the 'Home' page looked like in those days, but I can imagine 'guests' taking one look at the 'Home' page and buggering orf damn smartly, with "Cripes it's a Word Game forum" stuttering through their heads ! No I was thinking of the general subject matter presented for members' delectation, used to be very wide-ranging and including debates and discussions, fluffy threads, everyday living, general chat, and of course the inevitable 'conspiracy theory' rubbish ! Fortunately the word games seem to have taken a back seat (for the moment) !
If I remember rightly, the site seemed a lot busier, even 'buzzing' when a couple of certain parties were taking part - made FG more interesting, certainly to reading guests, and encouraged members to add reply posts if only to disagree vehemently with a particular subject matter or person's opinion ! A shame that one of them kept overdoing things and getting into trouble, but it was a fact that with such frequent and sometimes controversial threads/posts this forum was kept quite busy !

Certainly that action by Form Garden was very reasonable under the circumstances. Sorry Mr. spot, I had forgotten that the ex-member referred to had made such a threat ! Gawd, that ex-member must be under so much stress in RL that reasonable thought had been abandoned !
