It would indeed be difficult to find anyone lower on the social scale in this country than a Poldarkian Cornish tin miner, unless perhaps he might be a Kingswood coal miner.

I have several Kingswood coal miners up my family tree.

Our core support must come from the plebeian class, we offer benefits to the plebeian class, we solicit votes from the plebeian class, we hope in due time to form a government to represent the interests of the plebeian class. I expect we will even field candidates from the plebeian class. Speaking entirely for myself for a moment, I undoubtedly fall within the category of the plebeian class.

Tony Benn was a patrician. Even after he surrendered his inherited honours he was a patrician. I would, were he alive, be delighted to even attract a moment's attention from someone who worked so hard and so successfully for so long in the interest of the plebeians of this country.

Does that help?

Does that help?

Short answer No !!!!

You might see yourself as plebeian, but you are a plebeian with aspiration. Most plebs I know watch Corrie and the X Factor not jet off to Moscow for the opera.

Do you seriously see a party run by non aspirational plebeians succeeding ? It will need the likes of Benn and yourself to get heard.

The country is constitutionally governed by constituency representatives at the direction of the monarch, not by the electorate. Those who stand for parliament are, I would suggest, invariably aspirational. Some even aspire to do what good they can in an otherwise wicked world. Burke said as much when standing for re-election in Bristol: "I wish to be a member of Parliament to have my share of doing good and resisting evil".

What's happening here. This is one of 3 threads I can see where the last post was supposed to have been made by lanqit, yet none of them are. Furthermore they won't mark up as thread having been read - although now that I've posted here, this one probably will.

Yeah I noticed that earlier on. The last post was made by a newbie who has obviously been asked to leave by the management. There may be a delay in the system that still allows the poster to show but not his/her post

I would like to thank those who took part in this thread, it turned up information which ended in an acceptable party name for all concerned. The Electoral Commission has now registered The Common People as a political party. As of now we intend to form a majority government of the United Kingdom. We may need a Twitter account first, and more candidates than have so far offered their services. And a party conference.

Good lord, where was I when Pulp happened? I did, as it happens, hear that on the radio a fortnight ago and instantly decided it was the party conference anthem, but I had no idea who it was. I've heard the name Jarvis Cocker before but never seen a picture to match the name, much less a video. That's a class act. I'll have to ask if we can use the song.

I knew a girl went to St Martin's College but it was a long while ago.

I've been reeding up on Mr Cocker. He'd make an excellent Doctor Who if he condescended to perform the role.

Where were you ? Listening to that other stuff, nasally folky stuff I expect.

If you like Jarvis Cocker you will like this then......................or considering your comments elsewhere............maybe not.
