Argentina Looking For More Trouble

Post by FourPart »

So, Argentina have ruled on seizing the assets of the Falklands Oil Companies. Quite how they plan to do this is not quite so clear, as none of them are based in Argentina.

Argentina judge orders asset seizure of Falklands oil firms - BBC News

One question that does come to mind, though, is if they were to mount another invasion on the Falklands, would we have the resources to defend them this time? Sure, we have the almighty Trident. We had it last time. What good did it do then? What good would it do now?

Last time we had Aircraft Carriers & decent Air Support. Now we have hardly anything.

Are the Falklands now a pigeon ripe for the plucking?

You'd have to say that we have far less long-range aerial capability than we did back in the early 80's, and we struggled to ensure that 1 Vulcan was able to reach the Falklands, dodge the Roland anti-aircraft missile battery and drop a stick of bombs across the runway ( just 1 bomb scored a direct hit, but it was dead in the middle of the runway)then return to Ascension Island (just!). Impossible to repeat with our current capability.

Nukes would have been as useless in the '82 conflict as they would be now. I believe that they have HITHERTO helped to restrict, to a certain degree, overt "brinksmanship" and large-scale wars, but whilst they still exist, there's a danger they'll be used.

We are vunerable there now, as we can't stage long-range aerial missions in support of ground troops, ships or subs at present. "Fortress Falklands" doesn't have a roof....

We need substantially more Air Force, Navy and Army personnel and equipment if we're to stand a chance of "holding our own"

Yes and it's onlyu a matter of time before they do get plucked.

Short answer to "Argentina Looking For More Trouble" is YES !!!!

Can we repel a further attempt at them taking The Falklands ? Short answer NO !!!!

We have barely enough army to man a 'Dad's Army'. We have no useful aircraft carriers and very few RAF planes ! Our government obviously wants to be rid of the Falklands and let Argentina take over all the minerals and oils that are down that neck of the woods, that's why they have reduced our armed forces so drastically! Well why else have they cut back so hard on our armed protection ? Surely our government cannot be so stupid, blind and misguided !.............. Oh yes they can !

Indeed they are! Pathetic, mealy-mouthed, forked-tongue, trough-snouting, self serving, undemocratic, autocratic liars and mountebanks, in my opinion!!

But apart from that, they're Ok...

And now they have a Pope of their own to endorse their claims.

How cosy!! If I was PM, I'd also be asking Israel why they plan(ned?) to sell/loan Kifr fighter jets to Argentina, when it's clear (no matter Argentinian protestations to the contrary) that they have designs on the Falklands. Argentina have their own economic crisis at this time. Weapons of war cost money, BIG money. You wouldn't "go out on a limb" financially by buying/loaning this equipment if you didn't intend to use it at some stage, IMO.
