Yet another shoot up

Post by Bruv »

A 7-year-old boy and two men were killed overnight and at least 27 other people were injured during an 8-hour stretch that started not long after dark.

Someone opened fire in the 1100 block of North Harding Street about 11:55 p.m., hitting the 7-year-old boy and a 26-year-old woman.

What is a 7 year old boy doing still up and about at midnight ?

I've just read down all those reports in the provided link and I'm not surprised at all that shooting seems to be so commonplace in America, when owning a gun is such an easy thing to be able to do ! I'm glad I don't live in America.

When I first came across the article I thought it might be a single nutcase, but is seems these are isolated single incidents, frightening isn't it ?

What is a 7 year old boy doing still up and about at midnight ?

It was the 4th of July and the curfew for ending the fireworks was until 2am in the morning. It's summer vacation, and kids still get excited about seeing fireworks, all the fireworks. And parents let them stay up for the occasion.

I agree that we have too many incidents of gun violence here in the States and it can and does happen anywhere. It is a big problem with no easy solution.

Why is it that the cause is so blatantly obvious to the rest of the world, but the Americans are so vehement on maintaining their 'right' to let it continue?

We say "shoot out" instead of "shoot up". Shooting up is something done with heroin.

FourPart;1482049 wrote: Why is it that the cause is so blatantly obvious to the rest of the world, but the Americans are so vehement on maintaining their 'right' to let it continue?Shoot outs (or shoot ups) is believed to be done predominantly by people with dark[er] skin, as a certain member of this forum will happily attest to. It's illegal to own a firearm with a criminal record, so what America has been doing over the years is working hard to get as many people with dark[er] skin criminal records so that they will be breaking the law by owning firearms. That's how we maintain the idea of allowing firearms to "responsible" (mostly pale skinned) individuals.

Lately though we've been usurping the rules a bit and just shooting them at a young age instead. That's called preemptively keeping the dishonest honest.

I suppose the belief is that we'll begin to notice a reduction in shoot outs (shoot ups) in a generation or so. It's a hell of an idea. Just ask youknowwho.

I've always interpreted a shoot-out as a 2-way thing, whereas a shoot-up is just a 1-way thing. Perhaps not precise, but that's how I see it.

Hey Jackass

The crime rates in Chicago are not reflected across America.

Interesting, Chicago with the most restrictive gun laws has so much crime committed with guns.

So the next best option would be to try to marginalize them instead.

So......Kennedy, LBJ, Nixon, Ford and Carter..........or alternatively the power behind the scenes, tried to 'sort out' the 'black problem' by 'flooding the ghettos' with the means to kill them all off ?

And.......none of them had read any of the Evolutionary books you had ?

Or it could be that mankind are not half as clever as we would like to think they are ?

I am not sure I understand that.

Chicago has a long history of corruption since Prohibition , perhaps before. I am no expert on Chicago history. Back in the day it was Italian ganster mobs, Al Copone for example.

Today is a new breed.

It is no secret that daily murders are done over drug deals.

Ya know, business. Not family squabbles.

For example

Among those killed was 7-year-old Amari Brown, shot in the chest as he watched fireworks near his father's home in Humboldt Park late Saturday night.

Police say they believe the attack was aimed at the father, whom they described as a ranking gang member.

Not a new story.

This is nothing new to big cities.

Not a matter of what I believe.

The question should be, why the third largest city in the United States with such restrictive gun law have such a horrible murder rate?

What i can say is that if we're going to claim that the crime rate in Chicago is due to something unique to that city, without any evidence that the one presented is true then the fact that Chicago is the only city where The International Museum of Surgical Science is located is an equally valid reason. What makes one claim any more valid than the other?
