You have to be grateful the sign up rate is so slow.
The wording of THIS FIRST ONE conjures up the image of some red neck semi illiterate foaming at the mouth, thick neck with veins bulging dangerously.
THE SECOND is by the same poster, but he seems to have calmed down a little.
Both brought to you by my membership of another unPC Site

It's always fun to go read some of the petitions that are posted there.
I wonder at some of them. Like the one to put Ayn Rand on the $10 bill.

This is really confusing - it APPEARS to be a right-wing nut website (of which there are probably hundreds - or more), but this one seems to be SUPERIMPOSED on a legitimate White House blogsite.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It's quite strange.

It is the legitimate White house page.
select the "Open Petitions" page. You can see all of the petitions that have been submitted and waiting for votes.
There are some real nutcases out there.

It is a right wing nut on the official White House petition site, I haven't gone any further than these pages.
The UK have adopted the same sort of thing, I reckon it's a sop to the masses, making them feel they can make a difference, or it could be my cynicism showing through.

I posted "WHY"?
Why did BHO create such a site?
Write him, as if he can do what??
Giving all Americans a way to engage
Their government on the issues that
Matter to them.
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/
Such arrogance.
We have as system of governance, here, not to be ruled by “phone and pen., or so according to the Constitution.
I did a diligent look for what that accomplished that occupant who resides in our White House accomplished with that site.
Found none.
I am sure somebody can find one.

1. Was he the one who had the Petition site put there?
(I'm not even imagining that he created it himself)
2. Regardless of who put it there, whatever could be considered wrong about giving the public a mouthpiece? I was under the impression that that's what Democracy was all about.
There's more to the public having a say in matters than just getting to vote every 5 years. You can't expect any politician to represent you if you don't let them know how it is you want to be represented. That much is true worldwide, and is not restricted to the U.S.

It was set up for people to start petition, and if enough signatures are received, it gets put on the agenda for review and consideration by Congress.
Obviously very few of these ideas get very far, but a few have led to laws being passed.
On the other hand, it does seem to attract a number of Loonies.

There is a certain amount of thinking aloud.
We the People provides a new way to petition the Obama Administration to take action on a range of important issues facing our country. We created We the People because we want to hear from you. If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.
Introduction
Way back when people actually wrote their various representatives and got an offical response sometimes written by the representative. Not as fancy as spending money to present the illusion of progress.

You are like a dinosaur dawg, you should move on and accept change.
Way back then, your government in it's wisdom allowed the populace to petition for change, they did it back then by quill and parchment or knocking on his office door.
Today on line petitions do the same thing.

It just doesn't seem to get the same sort of Publicity or Kudos. We've actually had the same thing going here in the U.K. for quite some time. It's undergoing a revamp at the moment, so seems to be unavailable for use, but it's exactly the same sort of thing. It wouldn't surprise me if Obama got the idea from us.

Not a matter of accepting change. Just don 't setup a bandstand promoting a new snake oil miracle crure at a buck a bottle and expect me to jump on the bandwagon.

It is my experience that writing a letter makes me stand out as opposed to signing a petition. Never got a personal response after signing a petition. As a rule every representative must respond to a letter.
I realize that the response is "canned" so to speak but at some level that representative know I give a darn.

My representatives (senators, congresswoman) always personally acknowledge petition signers. Their computers do, at least.

State of California where I grew up has a system where if enough people sign a petition a ballot to make/change law will be put up for a popular vote.
BALLOT INITIATIVES
Sounds good, huh?
Every election cycle when one goes to the local grocery store etc. See tables set outside. They are set up by people who are paid to collect signatures.
Get enough signatures it goes up for a vote.
Hardly grassroot movements.
Ya know what? When the state checks a huge number are not registered to vote, or have other problems.
It is conventional wisdom among those active, Left or Right understand the concept a personal letter carries more weight than signing a petition.

When a politician has his own agenda & is vehemently opposed to what it is you are protesting in a letter, that letter is never going to get actioned, or even acknowledged (as with my M.P., Royston Smith). However, petitions are far more difficult to brush under the carpet.
