Operation Stack and Cameron

Post by Bruv »

David Cameron has been criticised for his description of migrants trying to reach Britain as a "swarm".

Asked about the Calais crisis, he spoke of "a swarm of people coming across the Mediterranean, seeking a better life, wanting to come to Britain".

Labour's Harriet Harman said "he should remember he is talking about people and not insects" and called the use of "divisive" language a "worrying turn".

Operation Stack remains in place on the M20 coastbound between Junctions 8 and 11 this morning (Thursday 30 July) due to a heavy volume of traffic heading towards the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel and the continued disruption in Calais.

What is the answer ??

For once I agree with him. It is a swarm. The French aren't really bothered about stopping them. They don't see it as their problem. Why should they? They're not looking to settle in France (who would want to?).

For a start off they should put electrified mesh at the end of the tunnel to stop people just trying to walk through. Then give out clear warnings that any stowaways trying to cross the borders illegally will be shot on sight - and follow through - not just an empty bluff. It would make others think twice about trying it - Oh - I forgot - we don't have an Army any more. Defence cutbacks.

It isn't a French problem it is a worldwide issue that needs to be addressed internationally.

There is a worldwide shift in population from third to first world economies.

The UK is not the first choice according to the statistics

Place those statistics in context of country size. I imagine that would tell a very different story.

These are NOT asylum seekers - they are economic migrants. International law states that asylum seekers must declare themselves at the first free country they reach. We are not going to be the first free country under any circumstances.
