WAAAY too much noise today.
I am a person who cannot stand a lot of loud noise - it gives me a headache and makes me really irritated. I had to tell the kids at HS that if they didn't keep some calm voices - I was going to turn into a bi*tch. It hurts my ears - then gives me a headache - then makes me withdraw into a smoldering a-hole. I even had to tell BTS to tone down tonight. I guess I've had enough. BTS tells me not to burn out but I carried it home tonight.

Oiy Minks Jr has ADHD and I swear voluntary tourettes and she is killer at night when I am tired from a full days work, I am always griping about how dam loud she is. I don't like places where the music is loud unless it is a concert, If I am at a social gathering I can't stand the noise of music and voices, I detest football on TV as it is crowd racket and football game noise, I always thought my noise issues were because I am hard of hearing and suffer noise overload, but have since learned it is a symptom of ADD. The inability to focus is doubled when there is too much noise.

I don't think I have ADD - quite sure I do not. It gets to me though - noise overload - very good. My brain just says STOP - I need quiet.

NV, it's the kids! They can be a noisey lot, and you have the hard job of being the sub. So they crank it up when they know it bugs you-just bug them back! Some them the 'tuff lady we know you are...............the take those quiet breaks in the teacher's lounge.

Hey CG, yeah it is just quite simply a low tolerance for the overload. NV no I didn't mean it was a result of ADD in everyone, that is what I was told about me. Also part of my problem is my hard of hearing state, and that leads to frustration and I just wanna turn it all off at times.

Chosi - I don't get ANY breaks at the HS. I did tell them today that the B would come out if they didn't tone it down - they did. You, on the other hand have more problems than I do - thanks for making me feel better

Kids love to get a reaction don't they, and being loud seems to do the trick.

Well ladies I also suffer from the same problem. I have worked around machines all my life.. I have a low tolerance for noise it makes me want to kill..!! I understand exactly what you mean. When I come home from work sometimes I don't turn anything that makes noise on, including the lights..
I have super sensitive ears always have, my dad had the same thing. I hear things other people can't it drives me nuts sometimes..
No I don't see dead people

I said "I can be nice or I can be a biitch - it depends on how you respect me". I did call a student a smart ass (under my breath) today. If I get reported for cussing, then so be it. These 14/15 year olds are flexing their wings and trying to shock me - if they only knew................there is no respect for substitute teachers - it is like walking into a free-for-all and having to calm the situation down just to get the lessons done. There is a line to walk and I have not quite figured it out. Now I do have to tell you that 98% of the students are respectful and do their work. Those other 2% try to incite bad behaviour in the rest of the class.

Ohhhh...14/15 yr olds??! Yikes! I am certified elementary K-6...I really can't help you as I haven't walked in those shoes!! One thing you said though is completely true....about walking a definate line! No matter what grade it is (I used to sub too), you will establish a certain "condition" w/in 5 minutes of coming into the room. It is the critical point which will determine the rest of your day with them. It can be a tough "walk"!! Hang in there, Valley!!
