Bobby who?

Well we went to a diner show yesterday, featuring Bobby Rydell in concert.

(Bobby who?) Some of his hits in USA: Wild One, Volare, Forget him, We Got Love, Kissin Time, to name a few.

His voice was just as strong as ever singing all his hits, as well as hits of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Bobby Darin, he was terrific!

Here's a more recent Bobby singing "forget him", he talks for the first 4 minutes, slide the timer to 4 minutes 20 seconds to get to the song. Still not too bad for "75"!

I read your intro to my hubby & he started singing. :yh_rotfl Hubby grew up with him.

Dinner & Bobby sounds like you had a great time.

It surprises me somewhat, how some of these elderly vocalists' voices are almost as good as when they first started to become popular. A couple of years ago I went to see "50th Anniversary Tour" as a 50th wedding anniversary present from my siblings. It was a brilliant night's entertainment with Gerry and the Pacemakers (Ferry across the Mersey), The Searchers (Sweets for my sweet), Brian Poole and the Tremeloes (Do you love me?), P. J. Proby (Hold Me) and his bass baritone voice is still as good as it ever was, and he has a magnificent head of spectacularly white hair now ! My favourites from the 60's/70's era The Fortunes were in brilliant form (You've Got Your Troubles, Same Old Feeling, Storm in a Teacup). All performers were as good as they ever were back in the 60's/70's ! Just shows that if you use your voice on a regular basis and look after it, then you can retain the same good quality that you had when you were in your 20's ! :yh_wink :yh_clap :yh_worshp

In any case, he was quite successful and it's good to know that he is still performing.

No. Conrad Birdie was someone else. Bobby Rydell (I love him!) played Ann-Margret's boyfriend. Conrad Birdie was an Elvis type.

Birdie was played by Jesse Pearson (wonder what HE's doing now?*) in the film and by Dick Gautier in the original Broadway production.

*Discovered later: Sadly, Mr. Pearson died of cancer in 1979 at the age of 49.
