Ashley Madison ??

Post by Bruv »

Customer data stolen from Ashley Madison, a dating website for married people who wish to cheat on their spouse, has reportedly been published.

The data has reportedly been leaked on the so called dark web, meaning it is accessible only via encrypted browsers

Who is most wrong the hackers or the site owners for starting such a business and leaving it vulnerable ?

For my money, they must both share the blame, Bruv. We live in a thoroughly wicked world; joining a cheaters site is faithless in the extreme, not taking adequate security measures is naive in the extreme, and hacking is despicable in the extreme. Taking advantage of this hacked info could lead to criminal acts, and is probably criminal, the hacking is DEFINITELY criminal, so by a short head I would say the hackers are the worst offenders.

Who the heck would want to join a site that caters for people who want to cheat on their partners ? Why the hell did they get married or form a committment to a person in the first place ? What a sad state to be in ! :-5

I have absolutely no sympathy with anybody whose name is published like that, who wants to cheat on their partner/spouse. They deserve all the badness that comes their way. I DO feel sorry for their unfortunate partners/spouses, though, although I would suggest that those unfortunate victims are better off without such a 'partner' at the end of the day !

The information is all hidden from the rest of us on the 'dark web' apparently, so we can't check up on our spouses that easily.

Only joking of course, it is a funny old world isn't it ?

I think the original site and the idea behind it edges the hackers by a wide margin as the worse offenders in this instance.

One could also argue that without these cheating partners, there would be no cheater's site; they would be out of business. In addition, how much negative influence on peoples morals does easy access to this type of 'clandestine' site have? Legally speaking, I would maintain that the hackers are the worst offenders.

If the question had been; "Who has the worst morals?", then I would struggle to answer!

People have been cheating since time began, but they had to go about it without this virtual 'ponce'.

The site are like drug dealers, facilitating the wrong, and making money off others possible misery.

The hackers are whistle blowers, shining some light into the dark recesses.

I totally agree with that, Bruv. Immoral!

Possibly so, but hacking is illegal, for good reason! Sensitive personal data should not be released willy-nilly into the public domain in this way. Right or wrong, we all have a right to privacy, and it's not up to some individual to decide to release data like this

publicly. Many hackers are merely nosey, advantage-seeking ego-trippers, sometimes with criminal intent.

I hasten to add that I in no way defend that cheater's site, or it's ethics/lack of ethics.

If the site breaks any laws, there are legal mechanisms in place to deal with such transgressions.

Alas and alack the site has only breeched poor taste in making their living.

As to the rights and wrongs of hacking as opposed to compliance to the powers that be, what about WikiLeaks ?

I believe there is a need for people to break certain laws, it's all a matter of judgement which laws need to be broken, when and for what good reason.

I tend to think of Wikileaks as a bit of an informative 'watchdog'. As for the 'ponce' Madison site, I hope one of their wealthier 'customers' sues them out of business!

Regarding hacking, if it's in the pubic interest that certain things are released into the public domain ( cosy govt. cover-ups, for instance),and it's not for financial gain, then I can go with that. Hacking for gain (journalists/criminals) I despise!

The fallout within the church-going community is growing, I notice. It seems one can shoot these people dead and gain immediate forgiveness, but registering on an adultery-enabling website is a whole other ball-game.

Based on my conversations with leaders from several denominations in the U.S. and Canada, I estimate that at least 400 church leaders (pastors, elders, staff, deacons, etc.) will be resigning Sunday.

What a load of randy people, not satisfied with the partner that they have. I wonder how many thousands of names are exposed on Ashley Maddison ! Just like a load of rabbits !!!! It doesn't surprise me that people of the church are fairly heavily represented !

36 million, of whom a third of a million are really women. As opposed to the 3 million just claiming to be.

Apparently only about five thousand of the registrants could be verified as actual women. The rest of the supposed women seem to be figments of people's imaginations. And chances are that many of the men who are listed may have been registered by someone else as there was no real verification process involved.

This is likely to get even more interesting, as men begin claiming that it wasn't really them.

That's not a credible figure when you consider the number of meetups the members have posted about, not unless each of the five thousand is going out every night and twice on Fridays.
