Reincarnation? You Decide.

It's easier for me because I don't come with any pretence of intellectual ability of any kind. People sift through what I post to glean some sort of clue as to what I'm on about but if you raise your head above the parapet with any degree of intellectual superiority, real or imagined, then you need to get the rules spot on.

I just duck and dive under the radar chucking bread to the birds, so no one really notices. It's probably easier to see a bigger picture from that perspective. And safer too.Internetting can be a rough ride if you're not open to learing and admitting fault.

I've been fortunate to come across certain people I consider worth learning from, spot being one of those people. It would cost good money to pay for much of what these certain individuals have to offer, but one must be open to correction. Spot corrects about as well as anyone. Get used to it or move on, but please STFU with the complaining.

It's a question of whether one word can be used in place of another, despite it not bearing the meaning intended.

The correct word, as I indicated in post #2, is doppelgänger. If there's a physical resemblance then Tchaikovsky would be a doppelgänger of Mr Corbyn. That's what the word means. It's not even slightly what reincarnation means. You know it's not what reincarnation means, FourPart knows it's not what reincarnation means, every Hottentot and Eskimo reeding the thread knows it's not what reincarnation means, the correct word for the thread title is doppelgänger. It's a matter of English usage.

Your English teacher would have docked a mark for inaccurate vocabulary. You may, if you wish, call it pedantry but somebody's got to do it, the world's already in a parlous enough state without people misusing words.

Ah, I see. YOU stated it, so it must be true, then? You can't 'win' a debate by 'stamping your foot' and insisting that because you stated it, it must be true.....It was YOUR opinion that I'm being too absolute, NOT G.B.S.s, unless you're the reincarnation of G.B.S?

If you are said reincarnation, then maybe we haven't gone so far off topic after all....:wah:

You appear to be unfamiliar with the concept of facts.

Now you're starting to sound like Pahu....

Again, you're being too absolute.

As stated by you in post#43. Fact. Your opinion, unless you are using a different vocabulary...?

I notice that you keep returning to previous posts to edit them for content.....

I do none of those things with any other intent than to clarify.

If it bothers you, quote my post when you reply and that will show what state my text was in when you saw it.

I doubt anyone edits their posts as often as I do mine.

No, it doesn't bother me (I often do exactly the same, and for the same reasons!). I was wondering if it's because the post sometimes comes out with odd length lines, or a single word on a given line for no apparent reason, as it does sometimes for me. I then have to set it out manually for neatness, otherwise it can end up set out a bit like poetic verse! A damn nuisance. Is there a reason for it doing this?

The Quick Reply window is usually too small for me to see that my paragraph lengths are reasonably balanced, so I mostly type without breaks and add them when I can see the whole post on the screen.

Thanks for that, Spot. Think I might try that myself. I notice that it does 'the poetic verse set-out bit' less frequently on 'Go Advanced', but it's by no means foolproof. I also notice that window width has a bearing on how the post comes out.

There is another name for Spelling Reform. It's called illiteracy.

I also have to know the difference between architectural mouldings (reeding), and interpretation of the written word (reading). Reeding may also be applied to the act of inserting a reed into an instrument such as a clarinet or saxophone. It's not clever to criticize someone on the supposed misuse of a word made in a light hearted vein whilst continuing to deliberately misuse words yourself under the pretence of it being some fad to reform the English Language. Words may become added to the English Language after a certain amount of their being accepted as being in common usage. Other words may lapse into obscurity when they are not so commonly used. Some words may even develop officially acceptable 'alternative spellings', but the spelling of the original word remains the same. Anything else is simply a new word.
