It seems there was a premier tonight of a film called 'The force awakens' ?, why did it take up so much time in the broadcast of international news ?

How old are you?
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

I am a grumpy old bugger, but what is the relevance of my age?

Why should the BBC advertise a multi billion dollar franchise ?

I agree with the grumpy old bugger ! I'm damn sure there are dozens more important news items that the general public would prefer to be told about ! If they wanted something cheerful to lift the mood after miserable reports, then surely the BBC could find something that somebody had done that was worthwhile and would bring a smile to the publics' face, instead of giving valuable time to free advertising of such a commercial item !

I believe that it was 77 when the first Star Wars came out. the second one released in 80 and the third in 83.

I can even tell you where I was, at which theater, and with who I watched each of those episodes.

I also remember a great deal of hoopla in the TV News at the release of the first Prequel in 99, though I lost a bit of the enthusiasm after seeing that one.

I think I've seen at least one maybe two of the Star War movies, good films.....yes, worth noting in passing on the international news.....yes, but several interviews with the stars on the red carpet, displacing real news.......no.

An hour program following the news for in depth discussion about the phenomenon.....yes......if they must.

Not that I timed it, but beside this 'news' item, the first Englishman was launched toward the international space station for a six month tour of duty, it was given about the same amount of coverage.

Dan Dare in The Eagle as it happens, I didn't know there was old or new Star Trek.

What got right up my nose was an interviewee saying that the film was a "Spiritual event"....................it's just not news.

TNG if I have to give a preference but Dan Dare and Fireball XL5 were more my bag.
