Well, it seems to be a polarization thing. Half of us seem to want the guy, and the other half wants somebody else.
The difference will be which half is actually slightly larger, or which half is better at getting out the vote. (And who, exactly, that somebody else turns out to be.

To be honest as I watch him he reminds me of an edgy comedian, I have a strong revulsion at the same time a begrudging admiration.
If only his quick response and incisive answers were more to my taste.
Imagine a world with Putin and Trump going head to head.

Frankly, the idea of a Putin - Trump Showdown gets me to thinking of a Mel Brooks parody on the Hitler - Stalin relationship.

You know, it's all very well you chaps disrespecting the man but he's the only potential candidate whose foreign policy amounts to isolationism.
Speaking solely for myself here, I actually want an isolationist USA, tariffed to the eyeballs, with a high wall round it and nobody allowed outdoors in the Fatherland who hasn't got valid citizenship.
Admittedly most Americans would start living on the constant edge of poverty - to be frank I think that's already the case - but if it involves less external destabilization then it has to be good news for the other 95% of the world's population. Hillary, for all her admirable idealism fifty years ago, behaved when Secretary of State like a born-again wrecker of world stability just to keep the job.

I shall express puzzlement so that I may become enlightened.
Does the Republican Party not have to authorize candidates before they can stand for election under the party's banner?
And if it does, how on earth did Mr Trump get permission?
For comparison, nobody in England can use a party identifier on a local or national ballot without authority from the party's Nominating Officer.

When Chillary was running the first time I said if she got in I would move to Canada. I don't tolerate the cold very well so I thought this time I might go south to Mexico . . . but wait a minute, I said if DT got in that I would go there. What to do? I guess I'll have to root for Bernie, Marco or Ted.

It's not allowed. If you're not representing a party at all, you'll simply be described as an Independent candidate.
To have any other description on the ballot you have to register a name, and the rules include:Category 3 prohibited words are:
Independent/Annibynnol, Independents, Official, Unofficial
You can only use category 3 words if you do not include an
existing registered identity mark.
For example you cannot use the ‘Independent Stop the
Bypass Party’ if there was an already registered ‘Stop the
Bypass Party’ because ‘Independent’ is being used with the
name of an existing registered party.
You also cannot use the ‘Independent Party’.

So you can go on the ballot as the Independent Lunar Colonization candidate, because there's no Lunar Colonization party, but you can't go on as Independent Labour.

10 years is pretty much the current administration. I can't see them changing anything, as breakaway "Independent" candidates would be more likely to benefit them by splitting the opposition in a FPTP system. I know that if standing as a representative of an official party then you must have their approval, but by stating yourself as being Independent is declaring non-affiliation. However, the party suffix is an indication of which direction your political bias lies - although it should also be noted that the Independent Labour Party was once an officially registered party.
Personally, though, I see the fringe parties as being total time wasters (apart from the ones that do it to raise money for charities). No-one sees them as having any possibility of winning a seat over the main runners. The only purpose they serve is to divide the vote, thus giving the opposition a false advantage. This is basically what Royston Smith (my MP) was under Police investigation for (which seemed to be conveniently swept under the carpet). He had (allegedly) handed a list of names & addresses of Labour voters who might potentially be persuaded to vote UKIP to the UKIP candidate (who also knew that he didn't have a hope in hell of getting in). Whether or not it actually had any effect of reducing Labour support is anyone's guess, but the fact remains is that it was, at least, a breach of the Data Protection act & making use of dividing opposition votes.

Let me rephrase my comment then. Nobody has sat in the House of Commons or contested an election to a Westminster seat in the last ten years having an Independent Labour or Independent Conservative listing on a ballot paper. I think the rules changed to ban the practice. My quote saying it was banned was from the Electoral Commission who specify election practice.
