Victoria Wood RIP

Post by Bruv »

Comedian Victoria Wood has died aged 62 after "a short but brave" battle with cancer.

Some of her work was simply brilliant.

On a very personal note, the demise of so many from the big C, makes me feel a very very fortunate person.
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

Me too Bruv ! She was such a talent, so clever, and her partnership with Julie Walters was brilliant. Victoria wrote the sketches and Julie delivered the words with amazing ability and timing. Victoria was quite a musician as well.......................RIP Victoria, you brought much joy to millions !

I had no idea. Very sad loss. An extraordinary talent

Her song-writing was brilliant, her stage presence was magical, I'm shocked that she's died. It's a loss to the nation.

There was point raised on 5-Live the other night saying that there seems to be a disproportionate number of celebrities dying this year, and asked if this really was the case, or if it just seemed that way, so he did some checking on figures in the past for the same period, and sure enough, this year shows more than twice as many as at any time before. However, this is being put down to the fact that the celebs that are reaching the high risk mortality stage at the moment reached their celebrity status in the day when it really took talent to do so, when televisions only had 2 or 3, and later 4 channels. For the same period in another 10 - 15 years from now there probably won't be so many noticeable ones because the celebs we have these days are merely flash in the pan non-entity ones, who are merely the result of expensive marketing, with no real talent whatsoever. Those like Victoria, will remain in people's memories for a lifetime.

What a good post, FourPart. I wholeheartedly agree with what you say, particularly the last sentence.
