Academisation of schools ?

Post by Bruv »

The government announced plans for all schools to become academies by 2022, in its White Paper on schools last week.

School :- An institution for educating children.

Academy :- A place of study or training in a special field.

What is the difference ?

Both places of education, why not improve what is there already ?
I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

It's a way of privatising stateschools and taking them out of local authoprity control but still have it paid for out of the public puirse it allows for selection to be brought back in and also the creation of more religious schools. rather than education being a great leveller and providing equal opportunity for all it's back to the old days of if you were poor you went to a crap school and further education was beyond the means of most people's parents. . Luckily I lve in scotland buit we still have the bliht of religious schools despite the simple fact that most people are opposed to them on the grounds they perpetuate sectarianism.

we have a tory government remember they are hell bent on undoing all the achiements of post war socialism. I detest the tories almost to the point of irrationality and labour are a bunch of sleazy inmadequates

As Cameron is so fond of pointing out, Academies were first set up by Labour. However, this was done as a last ditch action for failing schools, where it was a choice of making them into Academies, where the standards are lower, such as not requiring the teachers to be qualified. These were schools that either improved or got closed. Therefore, those that survived were the ones that showed improvements. When you're as low as you can go, there's only one direction you can go. However, when you impose the same low standards to schools that are already at a peak, there is only one direction they can go, and that's down - unless, of course, you go to Eton, because I bet that won't be liable to being made into an Academy.

In scotland to be a subject secondary teacher you require a degree then a teaching qualification - although you can do a bachelor of education degree it's still subjct orientated. The notion that you can walk in off the streets or just left the army and be a teacher without any training is a ludicrous one that sauys a lot aboiut how teachers are viewed.

it was Tony Blair that was behind this scheme the eal reason semed to be to allow more faith schools. faith bschools shold be endfed and opuoils of all denominations mixed up so their religion becomes an irrelevance ina broader education scheme of things. Catholics don;lt want that as nthey think membership would drop away, so do most pf the more extreme protestants and muslims don;t seem to like the notion of girls being educated in the first place.

People can believe what they like but why do we tolerate this kind of nonsense from people who do not nhave the interests of the mainstream well being as their main concern.
