Dozens of crates perhaps. To be honest, I was always surprised they were allowed to operate there. It's an extremely densely populated residential area. Before I passed my Bike test I used to go past there every day, on my way to work.
There wasn't even much the Fire Services could do, other than wait until most of it had burned itself out, as gunpowder provides its own oxygen supply.

I found it funny that with the BBC film footage, at the moment of the explosion the cameraman clearly got blown backwards.
