A machine is only worth what someone else will pay for it do you think they should have offered what £10,000, £50,000, £1,000,000? The owner was happy to accept £9.50 also they sold something that wasn't working and had bits missing - caveat venditor maybe they should ask for their money back.

And what if it had gone to someone else who thought it was just something like an old Underwood, only to find it wasn't & didn't work as expected, only to scrap it? Or what if it had been sold to a private collector & hidden away where it would never have seen the light of day again?
As GMC said, anything is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it - or what the going price is. "Priceless" is often interpreted as meaning too valuable & beyond anyone's pocket. It may also mean "Worthless", as in junk. The point is that now it is a museum piece, it will (hopefully) remain as such for the public to appreciate for ever.

Those who jovially tipped the seller 50p knowing the machine was worth a lifetime's pension to her, did she but realize, lied to her by omission. It's this deliberate lying, to her overwhelming disadvantage, that shames the representatives of the National Museum of Computing and ultimately the Museum itself. The scornful manner of the lying is just the poisonous icing on the cake.

But while I am here......the whole world of commerce depends on the seller obtaining advantage over the buyer.......for instance...if a vegan OAP had an unwanted carcass of finest kobe beef across her TV chair which was far too big for her to move she would happily pay a butcher to dispose of it for her, and the removal fee could well be negotiated on the awkwardness, aroma and weight, maneuvering through her fine china collection filled living room, and the remote location of her cottage.
Would £30 big ones be too much ?
