Modern Highway robbery

Millionaire businessmen have been increasing the price of drugs bought by the NHS by up to 12,500 per cent.

The sharks are circling.

Incompetence within the NHS purchasing department?

If the loophole only appears when the drugs are generically branded (and presumably they can only be generically branded when they're our of patent) then it can only be incompetence IMHO.

The four buy the exclusive marketing rights then drop brand names.

Brothers Vijay and Bhikhu Patel, among Britain’s richest Asian entrepreneurs with an estimated fortune of £675 million , set up Atnahs which uses the tactics. Amdipharm, Mercury Pharma and Auden Mckenzie also do.

The companies’ tactics are legal but come at a time when the NHS budget is under unprecedented stress.

The Department of Health said: “The Competition and Markets Authority is investigating a potential abuse of generics pricing.

If 4 companies buy up the rights as they come out of patent, and all those companies are linked, and they all raise prices to supply common drugs at extortionate profits, I smell a rat.

Doubt if the profit is being ploughed back into research......could be wrong.

It may be legal, just like tax havens, but it's not nice.

That's called operating a cartel and is illegal.

So, when the drug patent expires, there are usually several pharmaceutical companies ready with a generic version. How can someone "buy up the rights" to a drug when its patent expires?

This "article" sets my BS meter on alert

Thats interesting.

The cats out of the bag as far as private health insurance as well. Turns out doctors are billing patients three to four times the amount for surgerys than the public system. Seems people with private health insurance are being royally ripped off.
The 'radical' left just wants everyone to have food, shelter, healthcare, education and a living wage. Man that's radical!....ooooohhhh Scary!
