It really hits when you realise that when the people currently in their 30s & 40s start talking about 'Old People', they're talking about YOU.

Gay....I repeat gay policemen....proposing......on duty ?

It would never have happened in my day.....this is my day isn't it ?

Sorry I have a whimsical mood on me right now..........it's my age.....and a scotch or two.

The Policemen ARE kids. Here in Denver, we just graduated a class of new officers. I have grandkids older than the lot of them.

it's fun.

When in conversation with my adult children and their friends often reference an "older" person and I always ask "like older than me" and I get back no no more like 50.

I then laugh uproariously and remind them I am 55 lol

When your 18year old says " people of your generation".... what?

Apparently 50 is the new 30.......go clubbing!

My youngest wants me to go to a drag queen club (performing comedians etc)... his reasoning for this is. " its okay, its a place where you can take your mum" .....now i really feel coddled.

I've even passed that milestone, Minks. I'm now at the "who's having mum for Christmas?" stage. I don't dribble ( well not much), I'm coherent 8 hours out of 24 and I don't always say, "it was better in the old days." I can be intrinsically annoying for my children but I don't spit, or sit down in the street and I wear little purple...yet.

The "Three Score Year and Ten" used to be considered a "Good Innings". Now it's the standard retirement age - and no doubt will be increased again before too long.

Well theres a lesson....life would probably be more fun if you did.... isnt half the fun of getting older is doing that very thing?

I am what most people call 'old'. I don't do 'old' so as far as me, inside myself, is concerned, I am in my 20s. I do get ticked off and told to act my age, from time to time by my son. I do ask him if he would want me any other way and he always says "No" ! So I suppose secretly he is a little proud of his old mum, and the way I behave and joke about. He'll never forget the whoopee cushion I had under my arm, under my jacket (working it like it was a set of bagpipes :wah: ) as we went round the Co-Op department store when he was about 7 years old, and the two elderly ladies who frowned disapprovingly in my direction, when my son exclaimed "Mum !!! "! What an example to set a young impressionable boy!:yh_rotfl I think my hubby tried to make out he didn't know me - he was always about 8 or 10 steps away from me !

I do have a bus pass, and I've had it for quite a while (it's getting a little dog-eared at the corners :wah: ). My attitude is that when one gets to a certain age, then one can 'get away with' all sorts of stuff :yh_rotfl. Anything a bit iffy is put down to 'age', and that includes flirting with the opposite sex ! Mostly I enjoy being 'old' as it seems to have more advantages than younger folk have, as I have already said, one can get away with quite a lot.

What I don't appreciate about being 'old' is the gradual worsening of twinges, and the eyes that can't see quite so far or so clearly, and the fact that my hearing is not as good as it used to be - I know this to be true because I can't hear the bats any more in the evening dusk ! At least I can still type fast, and I can still play my guitar. I can still drive my car, although I keep to speed limits a little more often these days

What I cannot do very well is walk like I used to, or stand for more than about 5 minutes. I have arthritis of the spine and I have C.O.P.D. from the smoking that I did (I gave it up over 6 years ago). I do have what my older brother calls a "cripple sticker" and I find that very helpful in the car.

I used to miss going for walks with my hubby, son and dog, but I now have, however, a small electric 'buggy' which can be taken apart into 5 pieces and loaded in the car, so I can go into Derbyshire as a family group, or to the Norfolk coast, where I can be let loose and rampage around, terrorising the pedestrians ! That way I feel much more a part of my family. I can even drive it around the supermarkets ! I really am quite lucky compared to other people, and I am extremely thankful for that.

Yes I'm getting old, but that is only my body. I still feel and think as if I'm in my late 20s, and I sometimes have to look in the mirror to see the white haired old wrinkly and remind myself that there are certain things I should not be attempting to do, and to actually 'act my age' as my son tells me. Then I think, why the hell should I ? Why suddenly change ? Nah, it's much more fun being that odd owd wrinkly messing abart and crackin' jokes- it keeps me feeling young. Oh to have had the knowledge and experience that I have now, when I was in my teens and twenties ! I wonder how many people say that ! ;)

I don't want to live to be old - certainly not to have to rely on Domiciliary Care. I've seen too much of the way the clients get treated. That is in no way a reflection on the carers. They are amazing, and carers in the truest sense of the word. However, when you have more client caring hours than you have carer availability hours you have a problem. Then, when you get some of those carers go Sick, on Holiday, or Maternity Leave you have a recipe for disaster. By its nature it's a 7 day week, 365 days a year task, and when you can't get people to work weekends or holidays because of having kids to look after - more problems - especially with School Holidays coming up. The carers get paid a pittance, and now with the new digital logging system they're getting paid by the minute, with no traveling time being paid for between jobs. This means that for a 10 hour day, they're often only getting paid for 3 - 4. Is it any wonder recruitment is a problem?

I felt old last night....... i visited the pub last night (its been awhile) and a bloke i havent seen in years walked in. Known him and his mrs for a good 15 years, our kids played footy together etc etc. Hes always made me laugh and for his age group is effing hot!

Anyway, after the trivial "hows it going mate and how long has it beens etc etc....i noticed him staring at me over and over. Not in a pervy psycho way but a reminicant cliudy kind of way. Like a lost puppy look.it was a bit weird. So anyway he makes his way over and he was doing all the jovial ha ha's etc.but he was touching me! .... im sitting there thinking to myself thats a bit strange, nah married men dont do that around here....thats a big no no !

So anyway him and the mrs have split up, etc etc

And instead of thinking like i did what seems to be a thousand years ago "finally i can jump this mans bones" ....i was just really sad for him and his family...i wanted to give him a hug but all the flashes of ramifications/hindsight/future sight.......came flooding to me.

Where did just jump his bones go?...where did woohoo!im in go?

I just sat there feeling sad.

I dont like this "getting old" stuff.

Ill be keeping an eye him .....but not for the. 'Jumping of bones' .

A little while ago Murrey Goulban did the dirty on milk farmers. At the moment instead of getting wages they are getting billed. This guy somehow gets a bill every month of $30,000 ......now the mans wife is leaving him i have a feeling he'll be on suicide watch communally. Small towns can be notorious for meaness but they tend to come together in a crisis.

Maybe wisdom and maturity does come with age? Dunno.
