Does anyone know the rules/scoring of Beach Volley ball so I have a half decent reason for watching it.
It might make it interesting to know why I am watching it.....thanks in advance.

One of the most crucial parts of Beach Volleyball is the interview round. Towards the end of the month-long Beach Volleyball event the contestants all take part in interviews with the judges, who delve deep into the minds of the hopefuls to see what they are truly made of. An important round, points for the interviews are announced on the final night.
There they all go in a row,
Exposing their fleshy perfections.
Their withers and their flanks, their hams and their shanks,
Open to public inspection.
But the judges are discriminating men;
This is no job for no nitwit.
They must carefully watch every cleavage and crotch
For the girl who's the world's biggest titbit.
Jake Thackray, RIP

It would be medically inadvisable to have a month long Beach Volley ball event, sun burnt eyeballs and tongues are no joking matter.

i think you need Fabio style hair and the nick name of "lion king" because you have that hair, and you are full on qualified for beach volleyball.
Actually I enjoyed watching Latvia play Canada, we came so close but in the last bit Latvia and their golden lion king boy knocked us out.
So much for beach volleyball, on to the next sport.

did you see the women's swimming, speaking of the Russians getting boo's. Wow right after the Russian woman came out the next swimmer an American came out, and wow the dirty look the American gave the Russian was scathing, and interestingly the American went on to beat out the Russian for first place.

It's very like the distinction between Amateur and Professional back in the 1950s.
If sport splits worldwide again like it did then, everyone could benefit. The drug-enhancers could compete against each other like the Professionals ended up doing while the Amateurs refused to allow them into their own competitions, and the drug-free athletes today could continue to compete only against other drug-free athletes.
How could anyone lose? And the viewing public could have twice the number of competitions to watch, and the enjoyment of knowing that the drug-free competitors were far more likely just what they claimed to be.

Have you possibly considered the drug users would want to compete as drug free if the money was right ?

You live in an different world.
It's against the rules NOW, there are random drug tests NOW, all competition is drug free NOW.
If you split it making drug free and a drug allowed sport there will be those drug free participants that will break the rules, some people like winning.

Drug-enhanced performance could be a lot more exciting to watch and it would stimulate scientific progress. The drug-enhanced athletes would come in from the cold and become heroes instead of pariahs. There are lots of points.
Why was Amateur status ever lauded in the first place? I can't even remember. I expect it was a class thing - Gentlemen and Players.

How did amateur and professional get into this mix ?
The drug free athletes would start taking drugs illegally whether amateur or professional.
The market is well served now, why separate for instance the 100 metres into drug and drug free ?

The Rio Olympics had a supply of 450,000 condoms for distribution to the athletes. That works out to 42 per person for a two week stay. At the London Olympics they only supplied 150,000 condoms. I wonder if the large increase was because they ran out in London or if they just expected Rio to be a more "friendly" environment.

I am on the fence about the booing, yes spectators should rise above, but when you hear an athlete has been "reinstated" after 2 positive doping's, I think that athlete needs to understand nobody is happy that they are taking another athletes place, or that they are competing against clean athletes.
It's really such a shame that the Olympics have become such a political affair.
I have to wonder if say a country like Canada was caught up in the doping such as Russia is, and was banned, would anyone reinstate a Canadian? I mean really we pose zero world threat in the political scheme of things? What is the worst we could do, stop everyone from taking selfies with Justin Trudeau???

Agree minks.....remember when Russia was boycotted once before? Then Russia boycotted the US . I think thats how it went. Very political. I think the olympics is a symbol of world unity, a "look over there tactic" toconvince us all is well in the world. Whether it is or not.
Horton (one of swimmers) was disciplined for what he said. But it must be do frustrating for the clean athletes.

Its a giant checkers game on a global board. It is heartbreaking to watch some of these young athletes coming in who are pretty naïve about the global political Olympic game and only want to compete in a sport they love only to have to experience the politics. I mean really even with booing the Russians, not only do the Russians feel it, all their competitors feel that too. They know it's not against them, but in their sport they feel the stress of the political game. Very unfair to those athletes and countries that have just come out to compete.

Perhaps it was in order to facilitate the smuggling of their Performance Enhancing Drugs.
At least the Russian Paralympic Team have been banned now (pending appeal).
