Metrication in Canada began in 1970 and while Canada has converted to the metric system for many purposes, there is still significant use of non-metric units and standards in many sectors of the Canadian economy. This is mainly due to historical ties with the United Kingdom (before metrication), the traditional use of the imperial system of measurement in Canada, close proximity to the United States, and to public opposition to metrication during the transition period.[1][2]
In other words Canadians remain confused as always. I still measure length in imperial. It took me years to convert the temperatures. Distance I gave up on, I don't know miles to Kilometers at all, I just accept Kilometers as they are. I still use imperial for weight, and measuring food, teaspoons, cups etc. I guess that is fluid measurements. At the time we converted over I was young just learned my imperial measurements, so for us to unlearn and relearn was brutally difficult. So we mess around with both.
This is indicative of where we stand globally too, we are heavily influenced both by the USA and UK.

The U.S. Currency has been decimalised. It still has its roots in old currencies - 2 Bits = 1 Quarter - Originating from the "Pieces of Eight" coinage.
The reason for dual measurements on product packaging in the U.K. is due to laws imposed on us by the E.U. It is, however, a much more sensible system.
As I understand it, "Cups" measurement were standardised in the U.S. not as an actual measurement, but as a proportional measurement in baking. E.g. 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of sugar & 3 cups of flour would be applicable, no matter what size the cup.
If the U.S. don't use Metric, just how do they measure power? We tend to use Kilowatts. How would you define the speed of light? Miles per hour or metres per second? It is interesting to note that even in the original Star Trek series, units of measurement were always referred to in Metric as Gene Roddenberry had foresight even then that decimalisation was the way of the future.
I have never understood the logic of Imperial measurements. For instance - a hundredweight - 56 pounds. Huh? Why not a hundred pounds? Humans are naturally meant to be metric. We have 10 fingers. We count in Base 10.
Here's a question regarding measurements in metric & imperial, though. Why is it that when it's hot we refer to it as being in the 90s (Farenheit), but when it's cold we refer to it as being sub zero (Celsius / Centigrade)? Surely there has to be some midway point?

Oh dear. A ton is a thousand kilos. One litre is a thousand millilitres. One cup is 250 millilitres four cups is a litre. One metre is a thousand centemetres . One kilometre is a thousand metres.
How simple do you need it.? You can count to ten surely? Just keep adding tens.

Actually, it's not as simple as that.
1 Short Ton [US] = 907.18474 Kilograms
1 Long Ton [UK] = 1,016.04691 Kilograms
1 Metric Tonne = 1,000 Kilograms
Note the difference in spelling. I used to work in a factory that involved ordering chemicals by the Tonne, and we had to take great care in ensuring we were talking in the same unit.

When did Millions turn into Billions ?
Once upon a time if somebody was a millionaire they were rich, now you have to be a Billionaire to have really made it.
Countries and businesses don't talk money in Millions anymore, it's all Billions these days.

But they cannot come to agreement on the definition of a Billion.
Part of the world defines a Billion and a 1000 Million, while the other part defines a Billion as a million Million.
Talk about a conversion error.

There are two ways to get into a cold lake in the springtime: Jump in and get the pain over with quickly, or wade in slowly and prolong the pain. Guess which way America is doing the Metric system?

I understand we have conceded to whatever the American standard was/is.

If the universe begins compressing and collapsing on itself, wouldn't humans become too dense to even notice what is happening with time?

ISIS has made a specific threat against Australia.
A suburb in melbourne was mentioned. What the heck did the suburb of Brunswick ever do to ISIS?
Apparently they are coming to kill us at sporting events etc. Okay i get sick of footy being broadcasted on every single channel on a weekend........ but i think blowing them up is going a bit far.

Moxie is a brand of carbonated beverage that was among the first mass-produced soft drinks in the United States. It continues to be regionally popular today. It is produced by the Moxie Beverage Company of Bedford, New Hampshire, which (through several levels of wholly owned subsidiaries) is part of the Kirin Holdings Company of Tokyo, Japan. As a result of widespread brand advertising, the brand name has become the word "moxie" in the English language, meaning "courage, daring, or spirit".
Moxie's flavor is unique, as it is not as sweet as most modern soft drinks and is described by some as bitter. Moxie is flavored with gentian root extract, an extremely bitter substance which was reputed to possess medicinal properties. It originated around 1876 as a patent medicine called "Moxie Nerve Food".[2]
Moxie is closely associated with the state of Maine and was designated the official soft drink of Maine on May 10, 2005.[3] Its creator, Dr. Augustin Thompson, was born in Union, Maine, but Moxie was created and first produced in Lowell, Massachusetts.[4]"

You might get a kick out of watching the implosions of the huge casinos in Las Vegas. They show those on TV every time one comes down. Kinda sad though to see a lot of my old haunts saying bye-bye.
