The latter, definitely. Though I'd have been better pleased had it been Leonard Cohen.

I think it's a wonderful choice. Many Bob Dylan lyrics are epic poems, IMO, and am so glad he is being honored in this way.

We had an English teacher in 65 who, when we were discussing poetry, brought out several of Dylan's works.

She claimed that he was one of the greatest poets of the day.

I don't know of anyone who said it better than Aaron Neville:

Bob Dylan definitely deserves this honor, he's not afraid to tell it like it is in his songs. I've sang about nine of his songs starting with "With God on Our Side" to "I Shall Be Released". I got into Bob back in the sixties when I first heard the album 'The Times They Are a-Changin'. It helped me to grow up. He gave us songs not just to listen to, but also to think about things going on in the world around us. And I thank him dearly for his contribution to the musical world. He deserves to win the Nobel Prize. Much love and respect to a person that I'm glad to have been on the planet at the same time with. Congratulations Bob Dylan. - Aaron Neville

Off the top of my head, some of my poetic favorites are: Masters of War, Gates of Eden, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, Ballad of Hollis Brown; I could think of more I know, but I'm about to be off. My favorite line is from Gates of Eden--"......and the princess & the prince discuss what's Real & what is Not"----the elite may have time to be philosophical, but most of us don't. Love that line.
