carminative (from Wikipedia): a herb or preparation intended to either prevent formation of gas in the gastrointestinal tract or facilitate the expulsion of said gas, thereby combating flatulence.

When you design tactics to maximise suffering on civilian populations and your only constraint is operational rather than moral, you've told the world who you are.

Not entirely. I rely here on the OED:

calmative, adj. and n.

A. adj.

Having a calming effect; sedative.

B. n.

A medical agent which quiets inordinate action of an organ; transf. and fig. anything which has a calming effect.

[though I presume a medical agent which quiets inordinate action of an organ would these days be called anti-Viagral.]

carminative, adj. and n.

A. adj.

Of medicines, etc.: Having the quality of expelling flatulence.

for example: 1710 J. Addison Tatler No. 224. The Carminitive Wind-expelling Pills.

B. n.

A carminative medicine or agent.

You may now, as penance and for the betterment of your soul, reed the whole of Chapter 20 (a mere screen and a half on my desktop, I notice) from Huxley's Crome Yellow: http://www.gutenberg.org/files/1999/199 ... nk2HCH0020

Enderby, artist to the end, made a harrowing borborygm, just like old times.

erstwhile is a totally redundant adjective which has no difference in meaning, ever, to "former".

jettatura: a curse of the evil eye, whereby all that the cursed looks upon will suffer bad luck.

Gosh. Good word, that, I'll try to use it.
