If you are in the unfortunet situation of being near a terrorist attack.

NEVER NEVER go toward the blast! I realise its in the human DNA to go help after seeing wounded people .....but please dont do it.

Wait for the second blast...... the bombers are waiting for the helpers and a crowd to form..... you get more bang for your buck that way.

But more importantly terrorists have introduced firearms to shoot helpers

Please just get the hell out of there. Save yourself and loved ones if they are with you. But dont stick around if you can get away.

Oh you may be thinking why ive brought this subject up.

Its because time and time again im seeing the aftermath of terrorist explosions (the latest in a starbucks in Indonesia) The first blast takes out only a few. And youd think , okay youve made your point but no. They have to achieve maximum effect. Kill the good samaritans as well......now THAT is evil!

They put delayed action fuses on a proportion of what they dropped to kill the rescuers.

There's a statue to Bomber Harris somewhere which, in a civilized world, would be permanently disfigured with crimson paint.

Seems we do learn from history eh?

Is that why theyre still finding unexploded bombs in Britain? Or are they normal bombs that were duds?

I'm not sure what the longest delay was but it was days, not weeks.

The unexploded ones still around were either duds - full of bang still but a broken fuse - or with a booby-trap fuse aimed specifically at killing bomb disposal teams.

How much of a threat are unexploded bombs?
What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.

When I was growing up we were instructed to never go towards any kind of emergency which attracts attention.

The reason was that 'looky loos' just get in the way of the firefighters, police or whatever.

If I were at the scene and saw what just happened, how much help could one be for seriously injured people?

Judgment call time.

Do what you can or get out of the way.

Watching the Pearl Harbour address. If obama is not talking to China in some of that speech, ill go hee!

Interesting though. I dont know what Abe can contribute though he's not going to say sorry. As war goes, they didnt target civies and it was a total success. They did wake up the sleeping giant though.

Thats all very well......once emergency services are there. But im not talking about that! Im talking about if you are there amongst it. Nearby when it happens. Unfortunetely its human nature to go towards not away from a blast. (Youd think it would be the opposite) Its proven time and time again and why attacks are so successful and considered into the plans of suicide bombers and the like.

Christ! Good point. People to this very day are still losing limbs.

Its going to be that way in Afghanistan too.

I happen to tune in the news when Abe was speaking. I didn't listen to the whole thing. If the need comes I can find the transcript.

I was actually kinda moved from what I heard.

I am sick of all the apologies for this or that.

A politician apologizes for something and "takes responsibility" all is forgiven.

Really?

I see no more reason that Abe should apologize for the attack on Peral Harbor than any American should apologize for slavery.

Actually, I have always bore a grudge against the Romans for the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE. I am not expecting an apology from Italy anytime soon.

I always thought the apology for the stolen generation was the best apology ever. I didnt know anything about it. They certainly didnt teach us in school. I didnt know the first census to count aboriginies was in 1971. Since this apology all Australians have learnt a chit load about our history.. its like the convicts, we were told they were all scum......also not true.

So apologies will be made for the bombs over japan one day, but sometimes the truth hurts and a nation has to be ready for it. Its just still too soon

I have to agree. Apologies several generations removed seem to useless posturing to me.

**** happens. Just move on, and don't ever do that stuff, again.

Quite a big threat as they're becoming more and more unstable with age.

There are dozens of them found in the UK each year and it's just as bad in Germany :-

To this day Germany is a graveyard for unexploded bombs, with an average of 2,000 tons of buried munitions discovered annually.

How Many Tons of World War II Munitions Are Found in Germany Each Year? - The Atlantic

I know that one German city centre was closed a couple of weeks ago when they found another uxb, possibly Augsberg but my memory is poor.

A somewhat related issue, there's a munitions ship that sank in the thames estuary during the war half way between two of the largest oil refineries in the country. The authorities do not dare to try to move the explosives because they are now so unstable that any attempt to do so is guaranteed to set them off even though they know that sooner or later they are likely to explode anyway.

It's why I don't live on Canvey Island. Well, there's other reasons too but it's a big one.

Presumably being the unintending trigger trying to dismantle it all is a lot worse than saying it will happen eventually but there's nothing to be done.

It'll make the front pages when it happens though, either way.

Germany and Japan both fought wars of aggression - they brought their disasters on their own heads and I feel no need to apologise and my gripe with Bomber Harris is that he wasted resources that could have been better used elsewhere. However he DID stop the Greater German Reich becoming an economic superpower that could have fought for many more years than they did and possibly even won.

But my main reason for posting in reply is a story I heard at Uni about an Aussie family over to find out why their ancestor had been deported. They were so convinced it was going to be something like stealing the Squire's handkerchief or being a heroic rebel they insisted on hearing the answer in public at the front desk of the Record Office. They were very shocked when they were told he'd been deported for carnal relations with a Shetland Pony! An acquaintance of mine was the person who checked the record for them and she told me the tale. I do wonder what they told the folks back home...
