Are you asking for medical advice here? We are not qualified to give medical advice.

The immediate way to become comfortable is to take a very cheap antacid tablet with "alginate" or "alginic" in the list of ingredients. Acifix, Acigon, Riflux or Visco tablets.

If the tablet doesn't bring relief within ten minutes then the problem is rarer, more serious and needs a doctor to check for angina or a gastric ulcer.

If the tablet works then the problem is stomach acid rising upward, "reflux", in which case:1. Sleeping with the head and shoulders slightly raised might help stop the heartburn from beginning.

2. Frequent heartburn is most often a symptom of worry or mental stress. That's why seniors are so often affected, they have more worries. If that isn't stopped then the problem will keep coming back.

3. The more money your neighbour has, the more expensive and more dangerous his medical treatment for reflux will become.

I had acid reflux a couple of months back. Breathed it into my windpipe while asleep and choked. Had to get a housemate to call an ambulance. Fortunately as I began to pass out I relaxed a bit, and that allowed me to get just enough air to cough it out. Closest I've been to death that I can recall. When it happened again I deliberately relaxed and was able to clear it quite quickly.

I found raising the top third of the bed 3 or 4 cm was enough to stop it (doctor's advice), combined with cutting out alcohol, caffeine and chilies completely (I was also told to cut out chocolate, but luckily that doesn't seem to affect me :) Not sure caffeine is a big factor either, but I've other reasons to cut that out)

It was.

Chuckle. I've reached that age when you go to the doctor and he says, "You know everything you like? Stop it."

Heart burn or Acid reflux is usually common in older folk. However, if your neighbor is experiencing epigastric pain or heartburn associated with pain on the left shoulder and shortness of breath. Its better for him to go for a checkup with a professional because it may be due to a more serious condition sucjh as a heart attack. if he has no companion at home, its better if he seeks professional help or should get admitted in order for him to be monitored closely

I'm pleased the children are still concerned despite living so far away.

About a teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of warmish water does wonders. Better than any medication I've ever tried.

It certainly confirms immediately whether misplaced stomach acid is the cause. The subsequent embarrassment from unexpected volumes of carbon dioxide audibly escaping from every available orifice makes it a risky cure for all but the brave.

It's not just heart burn problems. After consulting the specialist. They informed that's the sign of heart attack and on time they approach a specialist. Near to the home named Mykinhealth.

Not sure I'm understanding you correctly. Are you saying your old neighbours have joined their children in another country, or that the whole family has gone to see the heart specialist at Mykinhealth?

The last time I used the word sahib on this site I got savaged by the admin[1], I remember. Or perhaps the word was effendi.

May the fleas of a dozen camels invade your crevices. That sort of thing.
