Haven't been to Forum Garden in a long time, so I thought I'd stop by this

afternoon to see what's happening. Either I'm not looking in the right sections,

or the activity on this forum has dwindled greatly. Was actually looking for a

thread on the topic of CBD Oil (aka cannabidiol). If it's against this site's

Terms of Service, please forgive me for being out of touch. :lips:

Hello and welcome back :-6

Yes the traffic dwindles as more people get into using the social media instead.

I've had a quick look round the system and I can't see any threads about CBD oil although I'm sure it's a subject we have discussed in the past it must have been under a different name.

My father, who was a pharmacist, told us many years ago that marijuana was used in medicines before WWII, and proved to be very beneficial to patients who were prescribed it ! For some reason, the powers that be decided that marijuana/cannabis should be made illegal !

A few years ago, a young man living along the road from us stopped to have a chat with us outside our gate. During the conversation we found out that he was suffering from Multiple sclerosis which seemed to come and go from one week to another. He said he had heard that marijuana has helped a lot of people who suffer from MS but he didn't know where to get any from to try it out. He knew it was illegal but was fairly desperate to see if he could ease his discomfort.

My son was with us as well and said to this chap that he would see what he could do.

Strangely, a couple of days later, my son came up with the goods. We didn't ask questions.

He delivered a small parcel to this chap, and the next time we saw him (a couple of weeks later on) he excitedly informed us that he had tried some of the small amount that my son had got for him, and having taken it about 10 days ago he had had no pain at all and felt a totally different person ! It was also still keeping him pain free after having taken it 10 days before ! :yh_bigsmi :-6

He said that he would ration himself to only using it if the pain got particularly uncomfortable and in that way he hoped the small amount my son had obtained for him would last for some time.

It was a few months later that we heard he had moved nearer to his work, the other side of town, so we never got any more news about how he was getting on, or whether he had found a source of supply.

That particular episode convinced me that there was definitely a call for legalising marijuana as a prescription medication only, but not for general availability. I really cannot understand why there is such an 'anti' about legalising it for prescription only, when there are numerous examples of how such a commodity can relieve severe pain for a lot of people and give them a tremendous improvement to their quality of life.

:-5:-5:-5

I hasten to add that marijuana is a perfectly natural herb and nothing like these dreadful man-made so called 'recreational' drugs. There is very little 'processing' done, it is usually used in it's natural form, either the leaf (weed) or the bud which grows from the centre stems. I understand that it can be smoked either with or without ordinary tobacco, or the bud can be crushed (not the seed) and used as an addition to cakes or beverages etc.

I've just written to my local MP and asked him to push this pathetic government to cancel the HS2 white elephant and use the money to give a much needed transfusion to our poor NHS. Nobody wants the damn train except a few wannabes who are trying to compete with the superfast continental trains and the far eastern superfast trains. BUT everybody wants a resuscitated NHS ! So put the train cash into the far more important National Health Service. Pursuing the HS2 plan is insanity IMO.

I believe, but don't quote me on this one . That the laws surrounding the legalisation of "weed" is mainly about excise law and not health. Something to do with Hemp way back when.

Thank you for letting us know that you may not be around during that time ! Hey, you have a good break Ted, that's a lovely long time to stay in Greece. Look after yourself and whoever is going with you, and come back safe and nicely tanned ! Will you be able to let us see any photos? I hope so. Take care. :-6 :yh_wink

I used to grow my own on the balcony, back in the day. Technically, the leaf is Cannabis. The flower is Marijuana, and only the female plants may be used as narcotic. As you say, cannabis is far less detrimental to health than other legal substances, such as alcohol & tobacco, and has a proven medicinal track record. Although I admit the primary reason for my using it was recreational, I also found it beneficial towards my epilepsy (which was not controlled too well at the time), as well as easing the pains following a seizure. It's good that it's been decriminalised in the UK, but that doesn't mean it's legal. It basically just means it's not cost effective to have the Police bother about going through the beaurocracy of a prosecution. As with anything that's only available on the Black Market, it's only the legislation that keeps the price high. The last thing Dealers would want is for it to be made legal.

it is legalized here. You have to have a prescription. You are then able to visit the natural wellness center. You are screened, and they determine if you "qualify" any history of anything criminal, or substance abuse and you will be denied. Once you pass the screening you get to choose what works best for you and place your orders. You have 1 "dealer" you are authorized to deal with unless things change for you, then it's back to the wellness center to be re-evaluated. You can order online, and have it delivered to your door. Your usage is closely monitored.

Of course....., you do pay taxes on it. (this is all the Canadian government really cares about)

ROFL.

Same here. Medical use is approved although, since the entire state is just about bankrupt due to the oil and gas downturn, the legislature is REALLY considering complete legalization.

Colorado is just 45 minutes to the north of us and it's totally legal there. I went to Colorado Springs a bit ago and there was, no kidding, a marijuana dispensary on every third street corner. And a pipe shop on every other one. All the hotels and motels were packed to the hilt, even the crappy ones, even on the off season. Lots of the old decrepit motels are advertising themselves as "Bud and Breakfasts" and they give out free marijuana to guests at Happy Hour (and even free craft beer!). All you can smoke without passing out. (If you pass out, they cut you off.)

Thanks to all the marijuana tourism, Colorado is swimming in money. I saw them paving a road that was perfectly good! Our state is eyeing that money with drooling jaws wide open.

Saint Alberta is the same, we are dying in the depression as we watch the oil and gas business dry up.

Gas and oil are finite fuels and these companies were warned years ago that those fuels would dry up, and were advised to get involved with wave/tide power, hydro-electric, wind turbines and solar power. It's their stupid fault that they took no notice when they maybe could have afforded to branch out into renewables in readiness for the big 'crash', now everybody is suffering the consequences of their lack of common sense ! Joe public can't do much about it, but these huge oil and gas companies can and damn well should, whilst they still have a bit of money to be able to develop into the renewables field. That is my opinion, for what it's worth.

By gum it's been quite a while since there were any callers in my little friendly café ! :-3 So I suppose I'd better contribute something and get it open again ! :wah:

This pic is our lovely Charter/trip boat just leaving our jetty during a Nottingham River Festival. The weather was brilliant and I remember we really did a 'burster' over the 2 days of the Festival. Mind you we were all knackered after that weekend - working solidly from 9 am till midnight each of the two days ! Good job we always had the Mondays off during our season ! Although part of that day was spent visiting the Cash & Carry supplier to purchase replacement stocks and giving the boat a very good all-over clean ! So that particular Monday was certainly not a day off in the end ! But if I remember rightly we did have a free day later in the week. :)

Ahhh dear Bruv. I have a confession to make, I pop into a couple of other sites - sites for owd fuddy duddies :yh_rotfl and I get involved with the various game threads that are there ! I do sometimes make a post in a thread if it is something that I am interested in, but I'm mostly into the 'jigsaw', hangman, 8 line rhyme (where folk write two rhyming lines each till 8 lines have been posted), then there's the limericks threads (where folk write one line each till they get to the 5 lines ) ! All good clean fun innit ? :wah: Only one of those sites has an arcade, so I probably find more satisfaction in FG's arcade !

Enough about my excuses, so how are you Bruv ? I do hope you and yours are OK. :)

Not sure which 'trying times' you are referring to as we have one or two ongoing . One is sorting gradually and will have an end in a few months, but another I'm afraid will stay with my family to our graves.

With this in mind, we try not to give it any thought and the people involved, I hope, will fetch up in hell having experienced deserved karma in the mean time. I still cannot understand how 'friends' can turn like that and hurt so badly a family who have taken them into their hearts and done nothing but help them with friendship and also a lot of money, for around 14 years. Evil. :(

Yes Bruv, my sister-in-law died and my hubby is grieving quietly, I of course wasn't so close to her as Chris was - they were great mates when they were children and used to get up to all sorts of mischief together (mostly instigated by Chris !). I am very sad that she is no longer with us though. She was a lovely person, with a lovely sense of humour, and she laughed very easily. We're still waiting for somebody to buy her lovely two-bedroom cottage, and until that is dealt with then we can't pay any outstanding debts that she had, like the electricity and gas etc. But these people understand the situation and they have more thought than to badger Chris as the executor, with his other sister. So we're in limbo at the moment.

The other matter, well that can be put on the back burner. I wish I could find out if any of them have had karma yet.

Thank you, Bruv, for remembering and asking how things were here. It is very much appreciated.

At the risk of being verbally castigated, I just have to include this report, anonymous, that was found on another site by another person.

IN LIGHT OF RECENT EVENTS IN KOREA¦¦¦¦.

In light of the recent events in Korea, the French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from "Run" to "Hide."

The only two higher levels in France are "Collaborate" and "Surrender."

The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralysing the country's military capability.

The English are also feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Korea and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved."

Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross."

The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out.

Terrorists have been re-categorised from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance."

The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from "F**k Off" to "Let's get the Bastards."

They don't have any other levels.

This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British Army for the last 300 years.

Italy has increased the alert level from "Shout Loudly and Excitedly" to "Elaborate Military Posturing."

Two more levels remain: "Ineffective Combat Operations" and "Change Sides."

The Germans have increased their alert state from "Disdainful Arrogance" to "Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs."

They also have two higher levels: "Invade a Neighbour" and "Lose."

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual; the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy.

These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy.

Australia, meanwhile, has raised its security level from "No worries" to "She'll be alright, Mate."

Two more escalation levels remain: "Crikey! I think we'll need to cancel the Barbie this weekend!" and "The Barbie is cancelled."

So far no situation has ever warranted use of the final escalation level.

Anonymous April 2017

No I will not be accused of racism etc. cos I ain't guilty of such, and it does take the micky out of English etc.

I suppose it must be my quirky sense of humour, but I really feel that we should be able to laugh at ourselves with other people, don't you ? :yh_rotfl

I wonder why America's level of terror alert isn't shown.............................is it because either of the following.

(1) Their President is funny enough ?

(2) They wouldn't find it funny.

(3) They are on the highest level all the bloody time anyway.

I think our alert level is hovering around "WTF have we got ourselves into?"

The last time that level was reached was when the British Fleet brought 10000 fresh troops and occupied New York.

Well what a day !!! No internet and nearly no phone. All caused by careless workmen a couple of weeks ago, who were contracted to the local council and were resurfacing the footpath that ran all along all the houses that over-looked the childrens' playpark. Apparently it was not just our carbon fibre cable that was severed, but we found out today that ALL the cables to all the houses had been severed !!! The poor Virgin engineers will have to work tomorrow and no doubt next week repairing all these cables.

I asked the engineers, today, when Virgin will send an invoice to our local council. The engineer said Virgin can't send an invoice with charges on it, even though the council was guilty of 'criminal damage', however, if it was the other way round that would be a different matter !!! Seems a trifle one-sided to me !

Anyway, two engineers arrived at 1 pm and were working solidly till 7pm. If that is the length of time it takes to repair the cables to each house then one can work out how many days to repair the cables to 24 houses !!! Two men each time and however much they get paid per hour/day. That is quite a chunk of money by any standard ! Even allowing for the fact that our back garden has several obstructions in the way of a straight forward laying of a new cable, so would probably take longer to sort out, the repairs would still amount to well over 4 figures ! :yh_eyerol

The latest terrible incident is the catastrophic fire in a 'high rise' building (about 24 floors high with around 130 families living in it), at Grenfell Tower. Started just before 1.00 am this morning. There is another thread concentrating on this nightmare fire.

The major reason for the speed of the conflagration seems to be the one year old external plastic cladding. Piers Morgan on the TV early morning programme was an extremely angry man when he was interviewing one of the directors of the plastic cladding company, Rydon, that installed the external cladding. He kept asking the man what the contents of the plastic cladding was, and did it have a fire retardant. The man didn't know !!! This made Piers Morgan very angry and you could hear the disbelief in his voice. It seems obvious that the cladding played a major part in the way the fire shot up the building so quickly, and that man could not answer the question about the make-up of the plastic cladding - what chemicals were in the plastic etc.

There were no sprinklers in the building ! Somebody said that was because vandals maliciously causing the sprinklers to activate unnecessarily caused tremendous damage within a building with the water., and also because of the extra expense, the sprinklers were not included.

The film of the Grenfell Building burning and spreading up the building so fast was horrifying, unbelievable.

My first thoughts on seeing this film was that terrorists had attacked a high rise block of flats. But it does seem to have been caused by an electrical fault in a flat on the fourth floor, where, apparently a fridge exploded !! The occupants of that flat and their neighbours have survived.

I could scream ! That Theresa May said, today, something about "lessons to be learned". Interviewed people always seem to say that, makes me sick !!!! Don't they realise LESSONS ARE VERY RARELY LEARNED !!!!

There are some terrible things happening in this world.

You could see the massive flames leaping up the wall and the whole of the tower block seemed to be on fire in a matter of a few minutes ! One witness said that it was just like paper bursting into flames ! To travel up around 18 floors in a matter of a few minutes would certainly indicate that either somebody showered all the wall with petrol or some other flammable liquid, or the external cladding installed in 2016 had little or no fire retardant and was basically quite dangerously inflammable ! I sincerely hope that whoever passed that cladding as being within fire regulation guide lines, has great difficulty getting a decent night's sleep from now on.

I saw on tonight's 10 o'clock BBC News, that the building was still burning inside the rooms. Much more noticeable now that daylight has gone. The Fire Brigade have said that they have reached the top of the building and that there is nobody alive now to rescue. There must therefore be dozens more burned bodies to add to the death toll. What a dreadful sight for those brave firefighters to have to deal with.

There is no punishment severe enough for whoever was responsible for leaving that tower block in such a vulnerable and dangerous state.

I'm not sure how we are managing to keep going in this dreadful heat ! Chris is more tolerant of high temperatures but I just hate HOT ! Actually, I do know how we are managing - windows wide open, curtains closed where necessary and two very effective fans in the sitting room and a large fan on a stand in the kitchen. Because our sitting room is the coolest room in the house we are sleeping in the sitting room in our comfortable arm chairs, with the fans on max. ;)

Our bedroom is stifling as the sun moves round to that side of the house from early afternoon until it sets, and even having the bedroom windows wide open and curtains closed, and a large fan on max. we would find sleeping in that room very uncomfortable indeed. So we get a very good night's sleep in our sitting room ! When the evenings are cooler then we will return to our bedroom !

We also do the minimum of housework, avoid having hot meals and we have plenty of cold drinks. We also avoid going outside into the sunshine as much as possible.

What I have noticed is that we are both drained of energy and nod off to sleep a few times during the day. We just let that happen, as the naps are only about 15/20 minutes each time. We are retired so we can do what we like, when we like, so long as it is legal ! :yh_rotfl Our dog still gets her meals and her walks, so bugger the world ! :p :p :p

Get the paddling pool out, fill it with cold water and both sit in it with squeezy bottles squirting each other.

But seriously I am very much with you, I am constantly clammy, and debilitated.

Thought we were going to have a refreshing thunderstorm at 12.00 ish today, lots of distant rumbling then a few random spots of rain......then it heated up again.

Don't weaken Gill......it can't last much longer, and we can go back to complaining about the rain......we love a whinge about the weather us Brits...........and no wonder what it throws at us.

Hey up me lickle mate ! Hope things iz OK with you, and yes I will not weaken ! Besides, the temperature is not going to be so disgustingly hot for the next few days, and we may even get this promised thunder storm as well. I wish it would storm a bit, then that would freshen things up a bit and make the air easier to breathe ! :)

Been off today, and it's been raining - thankfully. I have a notoriously low tolerance for heat. The Air-Con at work has been down after a major part has burnt out & unable to source a replacement. In the meantime they've had loads of industrial sized 'portable' Air-Cons scattered around the place - each using up about 6 buckets of water a day, and it still feels like an oven.

As I said, today was a day off for me. Not exactly one to be enjoyed, though. I had to go get a tooth pulled. The actual procedure was surprisingly straightforward. However, since the local anaesthetic has worn off the bruising & scratches have become apparent - to say nothing of a big gaping hole where a molar used to be.

I've been traveling starting with a trip to Kansas City (Goin' to Kansas City-Kansas City here I come), a family reunion, then to Reno, Nevada and some rodeo and ropin' action, then to Sparks to see my friend's beautiful Koi pond and Japanese garden and do some landscape architecture with a friend from the 9th grade and now tomorrow to Pittsburgh where I'll catch up and spend some time with some old friends. After that it's on to San Jose and Santa Cruz and a beach concert with Eric Burton and The Animals.

:wah: @ Mr. Cars !!! Hi there young man ! Haven't seen/read you for absolutely ages, so how are you - well I hope, and your family too. We're OK here in Midlands UK, except for the awful heat of the sun ! Hopefully the temperatures will settle down to more normal UK summer temps soon. We've had quite a lot of rain in the last couple of days, and it is still raining, so now there are flash flood warnings out :-5 Oh how nice it is to live in a temperate climate :yh_rotfl

What are you doing with yourself these days, Cars ? I'm retired so whatever I do, I do whenever - the joys of retirement eh? Well during my working life, I guess I worked hard enough all those years, so I reckon I have earned a little 'me' time. I do enjoy car trips into the countryside from time to time, although we have to ration ourselves a little bit with regard to expense.

We are unable (because of lack of funds) to take loads of trips to the Norfolk coast like we used to do when we had our static caravan there - we used to spend more time in the static than we did in our house ! Ah well, they were really good days then. We still have a few good days, so I can't grumble. ;) And I'm sure we'll have many more. :D

Ooh, FourPart, join the club for low heat tolerance ! I really feel for you over the AC breakdown, but it seems that the gaffers did try to save the situation. I hope repairs have been made successfully.

I feel for you too over the dentist visit, hopefully the soreness will go off in a couple of days. I suppose I'm lucky with my teeth - I ain't got any of my own left to ache! :yh_rotfl

Zap you are soooo lucky being able to skip around your vast country like you do. 'Tis good that you are OK on your pins to be able to travel like that. Look after yourself and keep travelling you little gypsy you ! :-6 ;)

Hi Ms. G, I'm good, thanks for asking, I pop in here every now and then, I don't spend much more then 1/2 hour on line at any one time, as it hurts my eyes.

That said, the extreme heat of the sun is a bad thing, that's why the Mrs. & I leave FL in mid May, where after that it is too brutal HOT & HUMID and head back North to NE.

Yep being retired is great! Going on 11-1/2 years ( I took early retirement) for me.

I like to fish, sight see, go motor boating, gamble, visiting friends, and go out to eat (too much) when if FL. Then when back in NE, I have many "projects" around the house that needs attention, gardening, gambling, visiting friends, and eat out a lot, and BBQ on our back deck. Always something to keep busy! Fortunately for me, my financial situation is comfortable, and so we can do most every thing we want.

Still very bruised & scratched, plus the cheek is also bruised from where he had his fingers in.

I've only ever had 2 others removed. The first was when I was 4. The 2nd was a strange one - a wisdom tooth which was being pushed out by another wisdom tooth underneath it, so that was more a matter of helping it along. This is the first one to be leaving a gap, and it's a nightmare trying to keep your tongue out of it, especially while it's still an open wound.

On Thursday I was discussing the prospect of including a couple of my arrangements with the new choir's Musical Director for the Xmas programme, then when I got home I found, in my email news that I'd sold yet another copy of my version of People Get Ready. Surprisingly, this one seems to be rapidly catching up with The Lost Chord for popularity. Interestingly, though, this was the first one not to be sold in the US, but closer to home, in Thatcham.

Nice one FourPart ! I wasn't aware that you actually sold your arrangements, so I hope you get a reasonable amount for your work ! No don't tell me how much, as that is none of my business. I am curious, though, to know how you get your contacts in order to sell your work.

I get 40% Royalties on Originals & Public Domain pieces , and 20% on Shared Royalty ones, such as this one (shared with Curtis Mayfield, who wrote it). So far I have 3 Copyright Pieces. This one, Fight Song & Baby Elephant Walk. The rest are Originals & Public Domains. The minimum cost for the Shared Copyright ones is $12.99, so I get $2.68 per copy sold. My others range from $2.99 to $4.99. The cheaper ones often have a minimum order of 6 pieces, so it comes as an additional ego boost when someone orders 10. This shows that rather than just ordering the minimum & then photocopying, they're thinking enough of it to pay for it. Of course it's never going to be anything I could make a living on (currently about £30 / quarter), but it gives a feeling of self achievement.

Happy 4th of July to those who celebrate it!

When I was a teenager on the 4th, my dad and my uncle were lighting "M80's" and tossing them under a coffee can on the ground. Of course when it exploded, the can shot up around 50 feet into the air! We all laughed, it was fun.

So finally I talked them into letting me light one off myself.

I lit the fuse, and all in one motion tipped the can on the ground with my left hand, (like they did) and lifted my right hand up (like they did) to toss the M80 under the can, and "BOOM" (I wasn't fast enough) it exploded in my hand, close to my ear!

I had a terrible ringing in my ear, and we all looked and counted, I still had all 5 fingers (thank God) on my hand, still could see (thank God) and was shaken up beyond all belief!

I had that ringing in my ear for a few days, and my hand was a little swollen, and sore, but thank God, I still had it!

All three of us never told my mom a word of what happened, she knew something happened, but not what.

I was just happy that I was all in one piece!
