Nice place to stay - disturbing situation.

Any one have a Hotel Nighmare.

Sunday Aug. 3 check in and scheduled stay is 3 nights in Fullerton CA.

We're in room 208 - all is good. Monday We go to Knotts berry Farm - Venice Beach and had a great time - come back to our room @ 8:00 P.M. tired & wanting to relax.

The room next to us room 210 is noisy - I give it some time and spoke to rm. 210.

Noisy - spoke to rm. 210 again and noticed the room is full of unsupervised kids, called the main desk & the clerk spoke to rm. 210.

Noise continues - the unsupervised kids ages range 8 - 14 yrs. old and they're trashing the room. noise continues.

11:30 P.M. I'm at the front desk explaining the noise - they're wrestling - running up & down the hall & back into the room slamming & banging etc..

Clerk stated she spoke to them & that's all she could do. I explain it's a room full of unsupervised kids.

Clerk stated the kids were dropped off and will be picked up in the morning - as if that was a normal schedule - I stated I don't think that's legal.

Clerk asked if WE would like to be moved - serious - NO -WE would like to get some sleep.

I stated I'm going to call the Police - clerk says OK, do what you need to do & walked away.

Days Inn - 333 Bonita Ave. Fullerton CA - nice hotel terrible management - the clerk did nothing to assist & ensure a pleasant stay.

The next morning WE wake up to banging & slamming of doors at 6:00 A.M.

Thank You very much for that wake up call

I jumped out of bed & nearly killed a few brats & now realise I should've called the Police.

I won't hesitate next time & WE travel frequently.

Horrible management. I have contacted Days Inn Corporate Office.

Wow. Yeah, I've had a few of those nights, too.

Days Inn on my list of "Anywhere but there" chains.

Lars

I started to think that the front desk clerk could being getting paid under the table type thing for "baby sitting" - meaning allowing these unsupervised kids to be dropped off .

I've never seen anything like this - a room full of kids & then they have access to the pool - they were running the Hotel.

Never again for Days Inn - too bad - they serve a great daily breakfast which is good for the Hubby.

That day with very little sleep - we were off to "The Price is Right"

Come on Down - hell - we were laying down.....:yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl

That Is absolutely dreadful Patsy...

I've stayed In some pretty awful hotels during my time when we've hitch hiked around Europe but I have never had this In the UK

I do a fair bit of travelling around the country staying overnight In hotels for functions and campaigns and I always book the Lenny Henry Premier Inn. Cheap and cheerful but I'd never put up with what you have just endured. That's just unacceptable.

Especially If you have to be up early In the morning and be somewhere on time.

I suspect also from what you've said, the desk was doing the babysitting.

I've been to quite a few Youth Hostels in my time. Dirt cheap & excellent standards.

I couldn't stay in a Hostel - maybe when I was very young and traveling around as Oscar did with her brother.

I met a older lady in Hawaii who travels every where & stays in Hostels, and she was staying in a Hostel in Hawaii.

Brave woman..

This Days Inn was actually very nice - I feel the front desk clerk was making her own rules/policy for her benefit.

Corporate Office has offered a voucher for another stay in the future. Yippee

The modern hostels are not like the huts of yesteryear. In fact they're often very much like hotels themselves. The only difference is that you're expected to chip in & do a bit of the housework instead of leaving it to Room Service.

One year, my brother and I In our younger days set off for Paris to see The Stranglers.

To start with, It was the cross channel ferry from hell. Apparently had It have gone up a notch, they were on the point of cancelling the Newhaven to Dieppe ferries.

As soon as we were on board, I felt sick. While my brother tucked In to a full fried English breakfast below deck, I clung to a rail on the top deck In the hope the wind In my face would stop me from projectile vomiting.

In the end I set off to find a toilet to be sick and found every toilet, washbasin and floors full of every other passengers vomit except my brother who was now on a second helping of pork sausages.

I fought my way back to the top deck and unable to hold It any more, I said Hughie to the sea... only with the wind In my direction, my vomit flew back and covered me.

In the end, feeling I was about to pass out, I lay on the top deck on my stomach clinging for dear life... My brother was now on an extra serving of fried bread.

We get to Dieppe and find there's a bloody train strike to Paris. The Gig wasn't until the next night so we wern't duely worried about that but by the time we actually managed to board a train to Paris, we were 8 hours behind schedule and the entire world and his wife appeared to also be on board. I still feel sick and am now worried, really worried because we were so crammed In, I'd never have got to a window In time. I tried sucking In air and all I got was an old French man's body odour.

We fell off the train In Paris and by now It's 2 am.... we must have enquired at at least 8 reasonable looking hotels... all full.

The 9th Is on a corner and we enter one side. They tell us they have just one room but It's a double bed... we were so exhausted and I was still being sick that we took It.

Only what we didn't realise until we'd got In the room, was that the hotel was In fact a brothel. Outside our window on the other corner that we couldn't see on entry, were the ladies of the night parading up and down.

I laid on the bed and was so sick I thought the bed was moving like the sea waves. I lay there clinging to the side while my brother popped down to the bar to get a drink or five.

The door opens and standing there Is a huge black man asking If I wanted tea. I then realised there was no lock on the door. I'm lying there In a strange hotel, In a strange city and no way of contacting my brother( before the days of mobile phones). All I can say Is after the 3rd time this huge man walked Into the room, It ended with ' Come any closer and I'll stab you'.

My brother returned and he went to draw the curtains and shut the window for the night. With this the entire pelmet and curtain rail crashed to the floor bringing several lumps of plaster with It.

We found dog hairs In the bed but tried to settle down to sleep. He woke me at some point to warn me he was about to put the light on to take a pee. As he did so, we saw a mass of black shaped moving across the floor and walls... they were c.ockroaches.

We spent the rest of the night with the lights on listening to the ladies of the night In other rooms wailing.

The first thing we did after checking out was find a public baths and get clean....

When we look back, oh how we laugh now but that had to be the hotel from hell.

So yeah,, I guess i have been lucky with hotels really I stayed In a Travelodge In Manchester when we went to see The Stranglers ( again )... and checked In quite late. The staff got It In their heads that my brother was Steve Coogan still In Alan Partridge character so we went along with It but Instead of them calling him Mr Coogan, they kept calling him Mr Partridge. They offered us free coffee and all sorts but as we got to our room, they rang to ask If we had enough pillows.... so that's where yours went... :yh_rotfl

It wasn't until we'd checked out It dawned on me, that they may have thought I was his secretary from the tv series and then It wasn't so funny.

OMG Oscar :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl

that was a nightmare..

When We were in Paris our hotel stated a queen size bed which was great - until that night and we found out it was 2 twin beds place together

We fell between the beds and laughed.

The shower was so small for my large Hubby - if he turned to the right he turned the hot water off - turned to the left it was the cold water full blast and the water went all over the floor.

We still talk & laugh about it - fun time - fun trip & we'd love to travel back to Paris

We'd upgrade our hotel...:yh_rotfl

The best hotel I stayed In ???

I was Invited onto Breakfast TV to be Interviewed by Ben Shepherd and Kirsty Gallagher. I was advised I'd have a nice hotel for the night all paid for by the TV company.

So I got off the train at Paddington, London and received a text that my driver was parked up waiting for me and they gave me his vehicle registration to be sure.

I get to the car and there's a gold card In the window with my name on It.

We start travelling through London and I'm wondering where In London my hotel was going to be. We arrive In Park Lane !!! I'm thinking ' no way'.

I check In and my driver tells me he'll give me a wake up call In the morning at 3 am to pick my up to be at the tv studio's for 4 am.

I check In, and am escorted to the lift to get to my floor.

Now... you know those moments you get In a lift, half recognise someone and you do that sort of half head nod to them as a form of politeness? And just say ' Alright '?

That's what I did and what these two people did when I got In the lift. I recognised the woman first as Trudi Styler and then relaised that the short geezer with her who'd just said ' Alright' to me was Sting. They got out on the fourth floor and we said Goodnight.

I got to my room and thought no, I'm In the wrong room but I wasn't.

Marble bathroom, huge Queen sized bed, TV, DVD etc etc. On my perfectly made bed was a basket with compliments from the tv company. Chocolate, wine, Muffins, fruit, cheese etc. In the bathroom, free rabge of Dior perfumes and toiletries. There was a sunken bath.

Knock on the door... Would madam like any thing from the resturant? So had dinner sitting on the balcony overlooking Park Lane phoning all my mates to tell them I'd just been In a lift with Sting.

Went down to the bar later and It was the one time I had a drink, a glass of Red as It was on the house.... An hour later I'm still there putting the world to rights with a distinguished newsreader.

It was actually nothing compared to the hospitality In the Green room at the TV studio's the next day.

I didn't want to leave and my driver gave me a tour of London before putting me back on the train the next day.

First of all, I can't imagine parents dropping their unsupervised kids at a motel for a night. That's just wrong.

Hubby and I have had a few unpleasant experiences at motels/hotels. We are trying to sleep, and we hear doors slamming, people outside our room talking and laughing. One place had a band playing down the hill from us...........................all this is okay if you're not trying to sleep. :wah:

We had a room on the 4th floor of a hotel, and of course, we had just gotten into a deep sleep, when someone is banging on our door. Hubby get's up, looks through the peep-hole and opens the door. "Pizza Delivery!" says the man. Uh.....wrong room. Hubby shuts the door and we get back into bed. About two hours later, another banging on our door. Looking through the peep-hole, another guy. Hubby opens the door. "Is this (a females name) room?" Uh...no. This is when I call the front desk and complain. His response was apologetic, and claimed to keep a better watch on who enters the hotel and goes up to the rooms. Yeah, right. This happened at the Comfort Inn in Maryland last March.

The last place we stayed, at the Comfort Inn by the River in North Carolina, was comfortable and we slept well. It was spacious and had a private balcony.

Check into Fawlty Towers (har har). I stayed at a hotel in Cornwall where the landlady didn't have any understanding of my friends learning difficulty. I overheard her in the dining room at breakfast making rude comments and I decided I wasn't going to stay there again!

welcome to the Hotel California.

I just thought I would dig up this old thread for giggles. I have just returned from a great Vacation and we used AIRBNB for part of it and stayed at a GREAT place.

However

Once I stayed at a mid class motel in Banff Alberta, and when it was time to check out as I always do I went to look under the bed for the odd random sock or shoe, and was horrified to see an extremely large blood smear on the side of the box spring of the bed. bleck so very disturbing.

I've used airbnb loads, have used it here in the UK, Spain, Brugges and Italy. It's perfect for me to be booking a whole place as I need a kitchen to be able to cook for me (celiac) and my eldest son is a terrible traveller, hates going out so we need another home from home to stay in with wifi so he can just stay in and chill while the rest of us sight see.

Airbnb isn't hotels or bed and breakfasts. Some people rent rooms within their homes so therefore you share someone's house with them for a cheap break or you can hire an entire property.

Doesn't someone on here have property advertised on Airbnb??

here AirBNB also rents out camping sites, and trailers.

I don't have my home posted for rent.

My friend uses it all the time, and we have had nothing but good adventures with it.

Awe Boops too bad about your son.... btw how old are your kids now. Seems like just yesterday they were wee ones.

When my cousin came to visit back in June, he used AirBnB to find a place up in the mountains for us to use as home base. He found a nice little Condo at the Breckenridge Ski resort. It was clean and roomy and in a nice location. I may have to give it a try later for some of our adventures

wow BB, seems like just yesterday we were talking about your young'uns lol. Not so young anymore.

We even see camping sites, literally a "pad" or deck like structure, where you can pitch a tent upon. These are for rent too.

I have to say the place we rented through AirBNB last week was a gem. Highly recommend it to anyone.

It is a good site, lots hate it though, it's been getting a lot bad press lately in places such as Venice and Barcelona.

For me it made holidays more affordable and apartments etc just suit our requirements.

I think there are a couple of things you need to make sure you do when looking for a place to stay. Make sure you read thoroughly what the owner says on the property description. For instance if you are visiting a seaside area a lot of owners will not provide towels at all for you, you will need to bring your own. The reason for this is people take the towels to the beach and ruin them. Some people also take anything home with them that isn't screwed down :wah: Some places also provide bedding some don't, so it's really important you know what you will need to pack.

The other important thing to do is read all the reviews for any property you are interested in, these will give you a chance to work out the reality of a place rather than an owners possible exaggerated description.

With regards to reading customers reviews, one should also be careful reading such reviews, as sometimes companies write a review making out that they are a customer (a bit like some of the 'Dear Marge' letters in magazines ). Yes I am a suspicious so and so who has a bag of salt beside me most of the time !

Not convinced that you can write a review unless you have actually stayed at the property though the airbnb site, have used the site from both sides, as a user and as someone letting a property.

I found that open communication with the home owner worked too. We were travelling on motorbikes so had to ask if this was a problem (1 is loud, 2 is an uproar and we had 2) and I had to make sure the property had access for them (rugged cliff access is not so fun on a bike)

And the owner was very helpful.

Off course it depends on owner personality but you should communicate with him and discuss questions that interests you
