Local news headlines - revisited

Post by LarsMac »

Looking through the local paper this morning I found several items whose headlines are quite interesting.

Maybe more so than the actual articles, but good for a laugh, nonetheless.

Longmont police arrest gun-toting woman who threatened squirrel - Longmont Times-Call

Longmont police: Man knocked out power to auto parts store with erotic whip - Longmont Times-Call

What exactly is "Vehicular eluding" ?

And secondly as a Brit why the British part in the "Fantasy Series Metal Beaded Flogger" description ?

Are we famous for our Floggers beaded or not ?

Only passively, as you might say...old insult about the British upper classes (maybe all of us, not sure on that).

To be fair, if you go back to Victorian times and a bit earlier with Byron and the Hellfire Club and the like flogging was the least of it. They were inventive, those folks, had money and were on a quest to experience everything they could. They went to war with much the same attitude.

edit: I'm not saying the Officer corps of the time was involved in wild sexual debauchery when on campaign. It's certain they weren't because they were waaaay too drunk to manage anything like that (this was at the start of the Napoleonic Wars before reforms began to happen which led to less drunkenness, more professional competence and affairs being more discreet. Though what the officer dressed as a Nun had been up to when discovered by Wellington when he paid a courtesy call on the Mother Superior of the Portuguese Nunnery near where they were stationed one morning is anyone's guess)

I tell you what though, handguns do add a lot of drama to US life, as well as a huge and ongoing body count.

Mind you, the squirrels in Hyde Park have got so tame they will now sit on your knee and eat from your hand. You might need a handgun to eat in peace soon...

Vehicular eluding........in American English.

Any person who, while operating a motor vehicle, knowingly eludes or attempts to elude a peace officer also operating a motor vehicle, and who knows or reasonably should know that he or she is being pursued by said peace officer, and who operates his or her vehicle in a reckless manner, commits vehicular eluding.

English translation of vehicular eluding...........

Police Car chase.

Aww shame. I was seeing vehicular eluding as a sort of American bullfighting but using cars not bulls. A reaction to not being allowed to jaywalk. ;)

Reminds me of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and his headlines skit.

What happened to Kamala Harris' campaign?
She had the black vote all locked up.
