The great film composers can be numbered on one hand. John Williams, Dimitri Tiomkin and Ennio Morricone stand out. The experimental excitement of a live performance of Morricone's work is in a league of its own, he invented sounds nobody else had dreamt of. His contribution made Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns unique, to the extent that they still remain essential viewing.
