One thing I will say for Charlie and Camilla is that they are definetly old school royalty, none of this "I feel your pain", "why can't we all get along" Diana nonsense. I mean if your gonna let yourseves be presided over by an inbred crowd of fox-chasing, Rolls Royce driving, civil list grabbing, peasant-shooting German blow-ins, you might as well go the whole hog. Though Charles is a bit lefty (thats pinko commie for our American friends) sometimes isn't he? Well he's not fooling me, as soon as he gets in, he'll declare war on France, Germany, and Russia and install his inlaws as their new monarchs. He will outlaw all regional British accents, probably nuke Liverpool, and require that all new immigrants learn how to morris dance. He might even have a go at getting the colonies back and charge the yanks a fortune for their tea, though apparently that didn't go down too well with them before.

I think the Queen has done a fantastic job for all these years. She is reported to have been incredibly shy as a girl and to have been faced with her role as monarch must have been a nightmare scenario for her, whatever her status and her priveleges.
But sadly the same cannot be said of the rest of the royal family.

Now Now, this is future King we are talking about. Camilla is definately right up his street and as someone has already said she is "old School" hunting, fishing, shooting etc.
What drives me nuts is that this impending visit has given the tabloids (daily Mail especially) to print all the old pics of Princess Diana in the USA, dancing with Travolta etc, groan groan groan, leave it alone for God's sake

No disrespect intended, even though I'm Irish I have to admit you can't help but have a sneaking regard for Charlie and Camilla, its like I said they do the royalty thing properly, the old fashioned way. Although his propensity for tree hugging, extolling the virtues of old fashioned buildings, and being Islam's new peace ambassador is a bit worrying.

HER ROYAL WHO?NESS
Camilla? Never heard of her, say the Americans
From Nathan Yates In New York
MOST Americans have no idea who Camilla is - with many mistaking her for the Queen, Madonna and even Nancy Reagan.
In a survey on the eve of her visit to the US with husband Prince Charles, one in eight of those quizzed said she was our monarch.
When shown a picture of Camilla wearing a tiara, baffled New York taxi driver Karnail Singh, 49 said: "I think it's Barbara Cartland, or is it Princess Diana? No, I've got it, it's the Queen."
Fellow cabbie Stewart Rosendo added: "It's Princess Diana's mother. No, it's Queen Camilla."
Security guard Tracy McPherson, 39, said: "That's got to be Madonna, right?" Johnny Acaldo, a 42-year-old bagel seller, added: "It's Nancy Reagan." Student Andrea Tollstadius, 16, said: "I think it's Queen Lilly."
Hot dog salesman Mahmoud Mohamoud, 45, was almost spot on.
He said: "It's Charlie's girl, Priscilla or something."
The Mirror carried out a straw poll in Times Square to see if Camilla would be recognised when she arrives in the US today.
Our findings follow a survey by CNN news that revealed 81 per cent of Americans were not interested in the couple's visit. The nation that was obsessed by Princess Diana seemingly could not care less about Charles's new wife.
This next paragraph cracked me up...
The Miami Herald branded the couple "middle-aged, earnest eccentrics from the English countryside on an educational trip abroad" :wah: :wah:

i hate to admit it, but i felt sorry for camilla when the NY post headlined her as "FRUMP TOWER". i think it showed low class to treat a visitor that way. it is wholly unfair to compare her with the anorexic neurotic and simperingly pretty and perfect (and dead) diana, who was much younger. i'm a romantic. i believe in soul mates. :yh_yinyan they love each other, they are soul mates, and i am happy for them. i don't give a rat's corpse how she looks. she makes her man happy, and he her. what else matters?

I agree with LC........Diana and Charles were divorced - they each had their sad stories about the marriage. I do believe Charles and Camilla love each other. They will never be King and Princess. William will take the crown and he will be a breath of fresh air to the monarchy.

Oh, what you say is so very much the opposite of how I feel about them......
I think Diana was greatly wronged by both of them. She was used to produce the heirs and never had a chance to have a loving relationship with charles (little c for little man) cause that tart made herself too available to charles.
If camilla (little c.....) & charles are such soul mates, they should not have involved an innocent into their shameful lives. Having followed the road they did, they should have played that role to the end.
I think of myself as a romantic also. But my notion of romance is the prince marrying the beautiful princess, etc. Not the blatenly adulterous woman stepping into the princesses shoes.
"They" say what goes around, comes around and time will show how all this will play out.
I, personally, hope never to see charles on the throne with "that woman". My hope is to see Diana's son take that place when the time comes. Hopefully he will bring back some integrity to the royals.

I have no idea where people get this from, I myself have said I would like it to happen but it's only a wish, there is no legal instrument whereby Charles would miss out on the succession. he could take it then abdicate, if he did then Camilla would be Queen if she wanted the title for as long as he was there.
It's not a choice thing, the next in line to the throne is Charles and that is it unless Parliament says otherwise and the bill would have to be signed by ..... yes you guessed it HRH Queen Elizabeth.

Both are divorcees, one divorcee led to a king abdicating. So how can a divorcee become head of th english church? and if he does what will anglicans throughout the world do about it. Gay priests and female priests are bad enough but a divorced` adulterer as head of the church of England? Not that I really care that much but it's fun watching.

As far as I am aware the "softening" of the Aglican church to divorce as personified by "beardie" Rowan Williams is to do with this. Anyway as head of the church Charles he could do what he wanted

This is the 21st century. What was written 2000 + years ago is not always relevant now and my belief is that the scriptures were a guidance. I believe this is true to any religion. We are not living in the Dark Ages or though some would like it if we were.
Charles and Camilla get too much bad press. He is 57, she is 58. Their love has endured over many years. He committed adultery with her YES...Diana who I very much admired and who was young and naive therefore fell into an arranged marriage, had numerous lovers during and after her marriage.
We should leave the past alone and 'move on'. .... advice I have seen posted many times to others on FG...why should royalty or celebs. not be able to do the same !

I agree that people, whoever they are, should be allowed to move on. What concerns me though is that there seem to be issues here over privilege, position and power.
