Okay.....I have a ps2. An english one. One that only plays uk/european games.

BUMMER! I cant get amazon to ship to my uk address with an american ps.

Where in the uk can I find an american console that wont blow up when I plug it in to the 220 outlet?

I understand that chipping up the console is not an option, seeing that it's illegal and all.

So what other option is there?

How can I get an american console to the uk?

Raven - be careful with this one.

American computer plug-ins are now designed not to operate on voltage inputs more than 110v.

Even if you fit a voltage transformer the device is designed to 'sense' that and will not operate correctly.

The reason that U.S. manufacturers have taken this step is to stop the very thing you are trying to achieve i.e. buy an American appliance and take it to UK.

The manufacturers can charge significantly higher prices for their equipment in UK and don't want their customers buying the product here in America and then taking it to and operating it in UK!

What other option is there when you cant get games here that are released in the u.s.? The gaming industry hasnt understood that europe has just as high a demand for the product! What about the swap/slide option? I just heard about this! Apparently it's still available to do, here in the uk. Will the ps3 be able to play american games? Take for instance parasite eve. It was released in the u.s. but not here. parasite eve2 WAS released over here. FF4 and chrono trigger werent released over here either. So.........if you want to play those games, you have to get an american console.......or chip up these. which was banned last year.

The price of a ps2 over here is £99. The only profit they can make is due to the exchange rate of currency. The brand new games are £39. The last I knew in the states, they were around $49-59. True, I've been away from the states for a couple of years now, but I dont imagine the prices have changed that much. A psone with an lcd screen is still about a $150 bucks.

Raven - go to walmart.com

They have a comphrensive range of Playstation hardware, consoles, games etc.

You can buy on-line . See if they will accept an overseas order. If not get one sent to an address here and they can forward it to you in UK.

Will it work? I can only reiterate my earlier comments but it may be worth a try.

You would need to fit a voltage transformer to your mains outlet socket to reduce the voltage supplied to the equipment down to 110v/60 cycles.

Make sure it's 60 cycles and not 50. An electrician will be able to advise.

Let me know how you get on.

Don't bother - just have your UK PS2 chipped.

Another way of possibly getting 'round this - I'm making a semi educated guess here, what with me only being semi educated an' all that, but I don't see any reason for it not to work - is to import a U.S. slimline PS2. The slimline PS2 has the AC adapter/transformer/whatever as part of the power cable (much the same as various Nintendo consoles) as that's the only way that they could make the console slimline.

Then it should just be a case of obtaining a uk AV cable.

As Sony were recently recalling fauty AV cables, it should be possible to obtain one free of charge (it worked for me anyway) by using the information in the link below and the US console should work fine, as apart from being NTSC rather than PAL, the rest of the innards should be identical.

Sony will ask that you return your 'faulty' lead with the post paid label they supply with the new lead but I never did and they never chased me up about it and if they did - well, it's that clumsy postman losing stuff again.

I've also found that the best place to obtain U.S. import games is here http://www.dvdboxoffice.com/ - shipping included in price if I remember correctly.

I just wish that all the major games companies would treat the UK with some respect, rather than giving us the same games that the US and Japanese audience have had a year after they were released!! :-5

Oops kinds diverted from your question though there Raven sorry, just had to vent out the frustration!! :)

you and me both, mate!!! I dont understand it. The market is just as viable here. I dont think it has anything to do with making them in so many languages.

There is just as wide of an audience here!

So true Raven, and to make matters worse when the games are released over here the differences are so minor in some cases, other than the obvious language barriers, that you wonder why the year long wait for pratically the same game!!

I know that when I was in the US a few months ago I was shocked at not only the low prices that they have over there, but the complete difference in selection. I kept seeing game after game that was out there and yet due for release here early 2006!! Ah must admit I was sooooo jealous!!

Exactly. Being an american living in Britain, I can truly say I feel the pain! Its not right. There is more than an adequate market for those games over here! And the wait is what baffles me. Whats wrong with international release dates?
