Tips for Clint's New Job!

Post by Jives »

So Clint is starting a new job tomorrow, another poster and I thought it would be fun to write a few "Good Advice for New Jobs" thread for him. Just post in on your best advice for starting a new job!

Here are a couple of mine:

1. Make friends right away with the lead secretary! (Paperwork will get done on itme, you'll always be informed, and you may even get insights to upcoming decisions!)

2. Extra duty makes you stand out! (What distinguishes you from everyone else? Why your "can do" attitude towards some of the chores around the office! I change the marquee, run graduation, empty the parking lot trash cans, and troubleshoot software problems for the other teachers. It makes me "invaluable")

3. Be positive! Try to look on the bright side, greet each new task as a challenge.

4. Never be too flippant or sarcastic around the boss. It's actually very dangerous to be too buddy-buddy with your immediate superior. Always take a professional tone.

5. Be prepared. In every way. Keep a pen on you at all times. Do some research on a topic you know will come up at the next meeting.

6. Dress the part. So it's casual Friday...not for you. Stay a level higher than everyone else in dresscode. They say clothes make the man, how true is that.

Oooo All good tips.

Always admit your mistakes, people make them and your boss can accept that better than a lie.

You guys are great and your timing is perfect. I've moved our 5th wheel to a campground close to the job and I'm sitting in the commons area using the wireless internet. This is going to be a big change in our lives. We are looking for a new house and listing the one we have now. My wife will also have to change jobs. Besides finally being employed, the good news is that we will be closer to our grandchildren.

I have to say I'm excited and nervous. Your advice (most of it:D ) will be very useful. The new shoes and extra deoderant never even occured to me.:wah:

Thank you Jives.

Always work into the conversation that expansion is a good thing. Like adding a training department. I just happen to know a wonderful training manager who's available.

The first day was good. There were some surprises but they were all pleasant. I think I'm going to get along well with my new boss and all the people I met seemed very nice.

You are all so kind and supportive. I can't thank you enough.:yh_worshp
