Detroit, hmmmmm.

Post by LilacDragon »

Well, mayoral elections for the city of Detroit were held yesterday. And once again I am reminded of why I have never even considered living in that city.

First of the incumbant mayor (who was reelected) looks like a thug. Expensive suits and some serious bling, more like you would expect from a gangster rapper at a music award show.

So, in the last 4 years, crime in the city has gone up, the city is so far in debt that bankruptcy is not far off, police and firefighters have been laid off, city bus service has been eliminated in some areas and cut in others, and more that slips my mind at this particular moment. Oh, and one of my personal faves - in a city where the water has been tested and shown to be among the cleanest in the country - the city pays thousands monthly for delivery of bottled water and rentals of dispensers for that water in City office buildings!

As for the mayor himself - he leased a fancy SUV for his wife and did it in the name of the city Police department so that he wouldn't have to pay for it - the city did. He used his City credit card for many personal expenses. He used the City's petty cash account to buy such things as - tickets to the Rolling Stones Concert. There have been rumors for the duration of his first term of a part at the Mayor's Mansion that involved drugs and hookers. A stripper that reportedly attended the party (in a professional capacity) was gunned down on a city street. But of course, there is no connection to the mayor that can be found. Hmm, I wonder if the fact that he hired the police chief and she seems to go along with whatever he wants has anything to do with that?

I guess I am just floored that someone like this can be re-elected.

Hmmm, I wonder if it is in anyway connected to the woman in charge of the ballots who has been in court a lot in the last couple of months, accused of sending out more absentee ballots then there were absentee voters and having her "voting embassadors" "help" the senior citizens suffering from alzheimers and other forms of senior dementia fill out their ballots? (Allegations that have enough merit that the FBI was in court late last night making sure that a judge gave them custody of all the paperwork related to absentee ballots so that they could look into it a little further.) BTW - this woman was also re-elected!
