New Years resolutions.

With Christmas fast approaching, as does the start of the new year. So who out there has any New Years resolutions yet?? Do people still actually make them, and if so, how long is it until you find yourself breaking them??

I don't make them. They set you up to fail and it's just not healthy imho.

I have enough problems just getting through each day with out worrying about added stress.

If they work for some then good on them. I just can't be arsed.:p

Never do it. Never stay up for midnight either. Each day on its own is a celebration.

I've given up on the resolution bit and instead try to focus on a goal at the beginning of each month.

This goal orientation works a bit better than the resolution because you get 12 trys at it before the next New Year.

My goal is to stop making excuses and to just DO things without thinking about how I'm going to fail or how it would be better if someone else did it.

Too many failed resolutions in the past...

I just have daily 'determinations'...personal goals ...live for the day...be nice to people....help them to be nice to others....survive....smile a lot .... be the 'hub ' of the family....encourage and develop young people...just the things that are meaningfull every day.

I generally don't make one, usually I try and look back at the passing year and see if there is a way I can make the next one a little better. I dunno if I were to make one and could guarantee I would stick to it, I think realiztically....Get in good physical shape would be mine.

Goal-seeting is not bad for people, Sherry. It's just that you are setting the wrong kind of goals. Some people say, I'm going to become thin and slim, or fit and healthy, or even quit smoking completely.

When you give yourself a huge goal like that, then of course you will fail.

Instead try some little goals, ones that are attainable. After you attain them, try some more!:

For example, instead of "I'm going to become fit and trim." try "I'm going to lose 5 pounds." If you succeed and keep it off, then go for 5 more!

If you are thinking of quitting smoking, try "I'm going to limit the number of cigarettes I smoke to 3 a day for one month." If you succeed try for 2!

Make your resolutions general and think along the lines of things you'd like to do better. A resolution can be a easy as "I'm going to try to be more polite to everyone."

My goal last year was "To try not to run yellow lights as much." All year long, every time I saw a yellow light, I thought of my resolution, I still ran a few, but as a whole I drove much, much safer and I'm pretty sure I didn't run a red light all year long!

Resolutions aren't meant to be hard and fast rules that will make you feel bad if you break, they are just supposed to be short-term goals for you to work on to become a better person.

I know what you are saying Jives but I really know myself inside out and this isn't for me.

I take my hat off to anyone though who can set a goal and stick to it.:-6

I've never been into the resolution thing either. Like to spend new years reflecting on the year that was, and looking forward to the year ahead. But I figure if something is important that I need to set a goal or make a resolution, I shouldn't wait until new years. I'll just make it during the year and try hard at it then....
