Astra, it's a tradition in the US that the day after Thanksgiving starts the Christmas shopping period. The stores are jam-packed with people looking for all the sales going on. This starts very very early in the morning. Thus, it's known as Black Friday. I guess it's named for the shops being "in the black"? Can anyone clarify?
