Pantomime...love it or hate it ?

I am not a lover of pantos, but the kids luv em. I guess Alladin is a popular one. What do you guys think about panto ?

Are Pantomimes are British thing ???? The characters DO talk...they're kind of caricatures...The principal boy is a woman and there is a dame...oh lord ...what have I started ! Where's Bothwell when you need him ?

I love pantomimes. We're going to 2 this christmas. I love the heckling.

we took 2 american friends of our last year and they've never seen anything like it. *lol* They loved it, they even got called up onto the stage.:wah:

A pantomime is a play like cinderella or snow white, it's normally on 2 levels. One for the children and some inuendo for the adults.

The audience is always asked to join in. there are some classic line which are always said..

"Oh yes it is, oh no its not, oh yes it is, oh no it's not".... and so on.

"it's behind you"

The main male character is normally always played by a sexy woman in tights and thigh length boots and there is always a dame, which is an old man dressed up as a woman.

We only have it at christmas time and it's a really fun time.

I like the idea of pantomime, it's great fun, but I have to consider that my son would probably freak out at some of the stuff.

I've just realised how much my daughter misses out because of all the situations we have to avoid because of my sons major reactions. :-1

I love it. We used to go to the theatre royal in Plymouth to see the annual pantomime. Everyone of all ages can join in as the characters invite audience participation. Brilliant :-6

I went there many times as a child!!

Was in Plymouth shopping last saturday too!

Snooze, 2c is more of a British panto. There is a large theatre in Southampton (The Mayflower) which hosts huge pantos every year. However it costs about Ã‚£20-Ã‚£25+ per ticket which is nearly Ã‚£100 for four of you! Thats a lot of money, especially at Christmas. A couple of years ago we went there after Christmas (as its cheaper then) and saw Sleeping Beauty (I think) with Julian Clary as the evil witch. However, I thought it was a total let down because Julian Clary actyed as though he was totally bored of the whole production! He had obviously played it too many times and had had enough.....but thats no fair to those of us who were looking forward to it!

Personally I prefer the smaller productions put on by amateaur theatrical companies. The audience is smaller and invited to join in more.

Betty, why not take your son to one of these performances? You could arrange with hubby to take him out to the car if he gets upset and your hubby and daughter can stay til the end. They don't cost much, so it doesn't matter if you have to leave early and you might find he loves them because they are more fun-filled and aimed more at kids , without all the subtle innuendos for the adults to emjoy. Give it a go, you've nothing to lose. Have fun! :-6

We're not together any more Rapunzel, even if we were I would be giong on my own with the children anyway. He didn't do the 'family thing'.
