Hiccup may occur after stretching of the stomach following rapid eating, drinking, or swallowing air. Other common causes are: sudden excitement, a rapid change of temperature or drinking very hot or cold drinks.

Hi Arnold do you maybe always have it with hot tea? ;)

I love toast dunked into tea, butter and all :wah:

When my sister was pregnant with my nephew he had hiccups really regularly :D

Hi Abbey could it be that this corner makes you nervous for some reason. If you rapidly swallow air you can get hiccups??

You can get them from overbreathing (hyperventilating) and this usually happens if some one is excited or in a panic.

the wind is always blowing hard into my face when i turn the corner, i'll have to start holding my breath!

Dear Jen, hiccup expert extraordinaire.......

Hi Abbey

I found this explaination:

The diaphragm almost always works perfectly. It pulls down when you inhale to help pull air into the lungs, and it pushes up when you exhale to help push air out of the lungs. But sometimes the diaphragm becomes irritated, and when this happens, it pushes up in a jerky way that makes your breath come out differently from how it normally does. When this irregular breath hits your voice box, you're left with a big hiccup.

Some things that irritate the diaphragm are eating too quickly or too much, an irritation in the stomach or the throat, or feeling nervous or excited.

The dry toast probably irritates your throat

From an earlier thread:

So forget all those OTHER cures, this one's the REAL DEAL!! :D

No more trying to find someone to scare you, no more drinking out of the

other side of a glass, no more breathing into a paper bag!!

Now kids, you, too, can cure your hiccups!! And *I* am gonna tell you

how!

It's simple, it's easy, it's fun, it WORKS!! And best of all, it's FREE!!

Here's how ya do it: Take a deep breath and hold it as long as you can...

AFTER THE VERY FIRST HICCUP!! That way, the pattern doesn't get

established. Two hiccups get by ya, it don't work!

Start today! Be the first on your block to try it! Never suffer through

several minutes of hiccups again!

Bye kids!!
