Worst memory:

Learning how to cope with an invalid and work 3 jobs.

It's not a memory, but an everyday recurring nightmare....

Best - A 7-Day cruise to the U.S Virgin islands where I swam in Megan's Bay, the most beautiful beach in the world.

Worst - Nursing my wife back to health after a 9-month stay in the hospital.

Overall, though, it was just kind of a "good" year. The kind of year in which there are no major tragedies, and no major triumphs. The kind of year you take for granted when it happens, but wish for during the dramatic years.

I swam and laid in the sun by the pool in the Summer, my wife got well and found a job that she loves as an innkeeper for a bed and breakfast, the kids at my school did well and all the appliances in the house performed as required. I dropped 15 pounds and got fitter than I have been in many years, my son went to college, my grand daughters began to speak... Just a lazy, fun, happy year in which death and misery forgot me as I idled in a back current of the river of time.

Truly a "Golden Year", when I think of it.:o

Best: My 42nd birthday back in March. I thought "This is it! A new start! Life hasn't been great over the past few years but now it will get better! I'll understand the meaning to 'Life, the Universe and Everything' (the answer to that being 42! (Hitchhikers Guide...))

Worst: being told my cancer treatment hadn't got rid of all the bad cells and had to go back for second treament; being told I had diabetes and will need to take meds for the rest of my life; getting pregnant (a miracle and total joy!) only to miscarry 3 months later! (horrible experience!) Oh, and my son broke his leg and missed 7 weeks of school (although he did work at home), but now the educational welfare officer wants to see me about his low attendance rate! And my beautiful, shy, quiet daughter was bullied so badly at school she became angry, tearful, full of rage, etc, etc, and the school were bl**dy useless! So I pulled her out and am homeschooling her. I tried to send her to another school (where her best friend goes) but the headteacher told me to send her back to her own school and make her "face up" to the bullies! ALL of them!

Oh, and to top it off, my sister told my mother a HUGE lie about me (because she 'wanted to', she said). My mother believed her (she ALWAYS does) and hasn't spoken to me for about 10 months (apart from at my beloved aunt's funeral, when she told me I was a b**ch!) So My mother and sister never knew my joy at being pregnant or my sadness at losing my baby!

It's been a real SH*T year!!!

Light at the end of the tunnel: My hubby has been absolutely WONDERFUL this year. He has really been THERE for me and our relationship is so good now! My kids are both lovely - kind and thoughtful, I love them to bits! So my immediate family are perfect (that'll jinx it now!!) okay, they're lovely and we all have a warm and close relationship. (definitely jinxed it now! oh bollix!)

ALSO, I joined ForumGarden this year and have gained so much joy and happiness from it! I was so sad to lose my baby, but all the warmth and kindness I received was so comforting, I was really touched! So thankyou all! It really did help! And often I read posts and even though I don't reply, because other people have already said what I feel, I still feel close to the group and enjoy the warmth that shines through. There is so much love and generosity here. Its nice to have the fun stuff and the items of interest and its even good to see the occasional disagreement because it shows that we're not all sugary sycophants (that's not a sick elephant, btw! hehehe) (j/k) but that we all have our own views and opinions.

It HAS been a crap year - the worst ever in fact, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. I'm surrounded by my small but warm and loving family. I have to have tests next March to see if I need any more cancer treatment but, fingers crossed, all will be okay. Although my sister and mum aren't speaking to me, I'm actually happier because I've recently realised that my mother has ALWAYS criticised me, NEVER praised, and I don't feel like the failure she always seems to think I am. My sister is also good with sly remarks which make you feel bad about yourself and make you think that her kids/house/life are better then yours. I've suddenly realised how manipulative she is, which is something I never saw before! My hubby has said that he has always known that about her, but he says I had to find it out for myself as I would never have believed it if he had told me. And he's right, I wouldn't have believed him! My sister is a lot younger than me and I have ALWAYS been there for her, looking after her, protecting her, buying her things she wanted...basically, being walked over by her, I think. So, life is better without the constant criticism and veiled backstabbing. Having diabetes has made me take better care of myself, I exercise more and we all eat far more healthily...and I feel better for it! So, fingers crossed, things will continue to improve and next year I can write much nicer things about my year!

Sorry for waffling on so long, you can wake up now and carry on surfing...before you get washed up on the beach and your mouse drowns! Happy Christmas FGers!

Best: Realizing one of my dreams, I get to go to England.

My kids reconciling with their dad

The continued strong relationship with the BF

My parents still living

My raise at my job

My continued independance and loving it.

Meeting Far

Buying my car.

skittles2004 wrote: My best memory would have to be....

Seeing my cat run into a wall continually...later finding out he was sick!!!

LMAO!!!! I love it when they do that.....if you haven't done this yet, try a cheap laser pointer. Make it go on the floor getting the cat to play with it and make it go across the floor onto the wall....that's always a hoot even with dogs.

Sorry to hear your cat was sick, hope he's better now.
