what are we waiting for...many many many trucks loaded with money.

sending a man to the moon was an extreamely costly buisiness, hence why the program was terminated.

nasa now hopes to have a man back on the moon by 2017 and to star the construction of lunar bases.

the question is will china beat them there?

after the moon becomes a permenant esstablishment Mars will be incredibly more affordable and easier.

The NASA budget was substantially higher in the 1960s, percentage wise. We need to increase it again, and get rid of the pork barrel stuff-we need to again be active in the space race!

We need to find a reason for private enterprise to do it. Virgin developed a space shuttle cheaper and easier to control than NASA's. They can do the same for the rest of space exploration..

Can see this programme featuring in all those "worst TV moments" on a regular basis

ArnoldLayne wrote: Money isnt the issue, its political will and as Accountable said private companies will find ways to make it cheaper. The US and Russia must put in more effort as a combined unit. Lets have another space race along with the Chinese if necessary.

Sending a man to the moon would be cheaper in comparison to doing it in 1969. Then we had the cost of 10 or so years of research and development. Men went to the moon with the computing power of an average family saloon. We are much more sophisticated and able to make an efficient job, given the political will

money is the biggest issue, yes it's exponentialy cheaper but that doesn't mean it's not very expensive esspecially when we want to build lunar bases, start mining opperations and have regular flights too and from the moon. it all adds up.

yes the private enterprises are just begining to get there foot in space and make things cheaper, $200,000 for 2 hours in space is what virgin are charging, but the governments have got to get there first.

well the US government did at least spend a large fraction of its defense budget on the star wars program... which failed.

There was a news report of building a privately owned space port here in NM. I think you are right and others with money have jumped on the band wagon. Rich people want to do the shuttle thing. It isn't very far from there that private enterprise will take up some space costs. Heck, look at Russia - they are already charging millions. I know for a fact I was born centuries too early.
