Why are people getting all bent out of shape about whether people say "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" or whatever? Who cares if the Federal holiday is called Christmas or something else?
Christmas is a Christian Holy Day. It's been muddled by incorporating symbols from other religions, and traditions (gift giving) that prompt sales. Even the date itself was moved to accommodate non-Christians. It is a secular holiday. Celebrate it as such and have fun.
The true Christmas is in the heart. Rather than getting upset when someone calls out "happy winter day of non-religious celebration!" just smile & nod. We have no reason to be upset when a secular entity (a store) celebrates a secular holiday by selling secular material goods, and fails to acknowledge a non-secular name.
Go to church. Celebrate Christmas. Represent Christ in all you do. Stop condemning those who don't.

I guess in a way it's about the traditions and the way we were raised. I grew up with houses decorated with Christmas lights, decorations, and the knowledge of what Christmas was about. I've noticed this year there aren't many homes decorated, people are depressed and not very cheerful. I know it disturbs me knowing that my children will never know what it's like to drive around Christmas Eve and looking at all the houses decorated for Christmas. That they won't see the Salvation Army ringing their bells for donations to help those who are less fortunate than we are. I can teach them the best I can and give them family traditions and values but it's sort of hard when others don't do their traditions like their families before them. Christ is being taken out of our lives the best the people who want PC can. They can to a point. But they cannot take him from our hearts. No, I'm not a Christian, I don't claim to be one either, but I do believe in the trinity and what it used to mean to people.

Actually christmas was originally a pagan festival that got taken over by christians in their campaign against the "old" religons. Strictly speaking in these politically correct days we should say happy saturnalia or whatever it was. hogmanay is a wonderful festival celebrating new year and in my part of the country a bigger celebration than christmas though the rest of the world seem to be joining in now-even the English. My wife is English and doesn't get it but this is minor compared to her other flaws:sneaky: (I've been at the bravery tablets, besides she isn't reading this). Going to a hogmanay party with someone who doesn't get it is a miserable experience
I'm with accountable though. Does it really matter? Mind you I never say happy Ramadan to any Moslems mainly because i don't suppose it's much fun fasting.
The thing about christmas though if it wasn't originally a pagan festival would you say "happy" christmas? Let's face it most dour presbytarians believe you are not put on earth to suffer not to be happy. How often have you heard the saying laugh and the devil gets in? The late Jesus Christ was put on this earth to suffer for us so the least we can do is be miserable in sympathy
If you're feeling happy I recommend this as a read although maybe some will misunderstand the humour.

Anyway, after I'd fought my way to the cash register, my mood lightened, and the brass band tunes kept replaying in my head, and as what's normal for me, I start to whistle the tune. It wasn't on any Paul's road to Damascus, scale ....but I can't deny that it lifted my spirit
So now I've turned off 102.2 SmoothFm ...and looked out a proper Christmas Carols cd ....and I feel a whole lot better now than I have in the lead up to this Christmas.
In fact, I fear I may be in danger of being, nice? to some of my wonky in-laws over the next few days.:)Hang tough, boyo! Don't be embarassing yeself. :p
