Blessings of a New Year.....

Post by mominiowa »

As I sit here and reflect on my life this past year and how Christmas has come and gone - the kids were happy with their gifts and my family was together for the 1st time in 23 years- minus my father and brother who have sense passed away...Things went ok with few miss haps and only a few tears.some of happiness -some for the fear of the unknown...Maybe my illness, maybe the age of my mother, maybe the drunkenness of a brother who already will serve time for 2 OWI's (AKA -DUI or DWI's) Seeing my sister in her wheel chair for the first time....The time flew with alot of kids crying and laughing, babies giggling and cheers being toasted..Then the night ended- our stomachs full of lobster and prime rib, cherry cheesecake, and strawberry pretzel desserts, relish trays, home made fudge -dips and decorated Christmas Cookies, right down to the red hots for the buttons on the snowman's belly..

I have made so many new friends this year ,via the internet, hospital, work & volunteering at the Cancer Society....I think of them all as true friends...and I am grateful that my life has been changed by each and everyone of them..I thank God for every day and for every new experience that He has given me...As I was standing out at the cemetery visiting with my dad -I came to the conclusion that through this next year I am going some where exciting, whether it is to Utah to see my sis, the UK to see Jackie (Theia)...Colorado to watch a Broncos games..I am going to go and leave behind my pile of bills and doctors appointments and LIVE...Yes---thats what I am going to do....Just LIVE...

As I sit here and look at my tree -the white lights and raffia looking so lonely with out the presents below...I want to take it down and wash away the holidays but yet hang on to the siblings that have to head home tomorrw...silly to be writing all this down but its more of a journal I guess then anything......but what i wanted to tell you all is........

Blessing for a healthy and happy New Year..you are all very special to me...there isn't one day that doesn't pass me by that when I had opened this site up I didn't smile and laugh at a post....:-4

Dear MominIowa,

I can appreciate your feelings. Christmas always brings out one's sentimentality and when you're sentimental or emotional about things already, there's a double whammy with Christmas.

I'm sorry for the loss of your father and brother. How painful that must be. I'm sorry. Wish there was something I could say to help but I know there isn't. I was missing my loved ones too. We celebrate our Christmas on Christmas Eve. When I was 16, my very special grandmother died on Christmas Eve and it's always had a bittersweet taste to me since. I think of my dad and wonder if he's thinking about her too. It's very sad.

On a cheerful note I'm so happy you were reunited with your family. That's wonderful. :) I too had many years of not seeing part of my family and I remember how great it felt when they finally came back to be part of the family.

May this be a good year for you. :)

All I've lost this year is a marriage that was in decline anyway and I may lose the home I've lived in for 20 years. The latter is only a material thing and I'm sure that I'll find somewhere that I can turn into a new and lovely home...AS LONG AS IT HAS A GARDEN.

The best thing that happened last year was the birth of 8 week old Lewis and starting to practise Buddhism.

2006....well loads of good stuff...Lewis's Mum and Dad get married in June, I retire in October and I am SO positive about the future that only good things can happen.

To everyone that has had a c**p 2005, 2006 can only be better...love, luck and good health to everyone.

What an expressive, beautiful and poignant post, Mom. Although our experiences are different, it seems as if you were speaking for all of us. And I want to thank you for inspiring me into making this coming year a year when I too am going to try to say "yes" to life. :-4

So, okay, lets make a date for your visit to the UK and let's see if everything else falls into place. As Goethe says..."What you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it" :-6

New Life! ........for both Lewis and you. I'd say that was a very good year.

Am myself going to look into Buddhism this year. I like the concept that it can overlap my beliefs. I use to think it was an either/or deal.

Mom, you and several here in the Garden bowl me over with your strength of spirit. You've shown us how rich you life is, how rich life can be.

Live your life. Go. Do. See. Meet as many as will make eye contact. Each will be blessed for the experience. I know I have been. :yh_flower

Just Live

awake with a smile and rejoice the sun

slide from you bad and admire your toes... they wiggle.

Just Live

Stop to listen for the bird, and the laughter of children

Pick up and save the pretty rock along the way

Just Live

choose to watch the sunset over dishes

have icecream for breakfast

Just Live
