New Years Day Traditions

For good luck in the new year you MUST EAT pork and saurkraut. You must NOT eat eggs or fowl because you will then be scratching (for money) all year.

Also, and this is most important, how you spend this day sets how you will be spending your year. Work on this day, you will be working all year. Clean, and you will be cleaning all year. Fight with people, you will be fighting all year. So, you need to make January 1 a day your really enjoy, in the hopes that the year that follows will bring joy to you.

What traditions does your family have?

New Year's Day is on a Sunday, I will go to church. The big activities are on the

2nd. I'll save the big meal for that day.

Watching the Rose Parade, and rooting for the Cal Poly float in it, my old school, which my nephew still attends.

This year, the Rose Bowl game-I will even watch a football game to watch USC traunce Texas.

But I just can't run around looking for stuff to do. Seems like that's all I did in 2005!

I'd say you need to gather your family and friends close to you so you will feel their love all through the year..................

How cool. Interesting how coal is given to 'bad' boys and girls for children for Christmas, but coal on New Years Day is a good thing...............

my Mom was a southern lady, and we had to have black-eyed peas, which i loathed! as per southern tradition,they were supposed to bring luck.

Since I recently discovered I'm Scottish, and born & raised in the South (and love blackeyed peas), I can restart something this year. Thanks, guys! :driving:

I will be VERY careful what I do and eat then...thanks for the advice. i hate Pork...will Bacon (no eggs) be OK ?

My new years tradition? To be kissing Bullet as the ball is dropping, then for 10 seconds into the new year. That way, we can say we were kissing for the whole year. Then more partying till the wee hours, me seeing all the brothers home safely, (I'll be the designated driver) and then napping all day with my hubby. Get up late, make coffee and bring him breakfast in bed.

Yep LC! I am from Georgia and every New Years we eat black eyed peas (for coins), collard greens (for paper money) and hog jowls. My husband is a little freaked about the hog jowls, but they're goooooooood! I explain the taste and texture as follows:

Take two pieces of crispy bacon and put a pork rine (the chips) in the middle, like a sandwich. Yummmmmmm!

Hey! Sauerkraut is cabbage, right? Maybe we'll go to the Korean restaurant for bulgoki and kimchee! Yumm Yummmm!

Now I just have to figure out how to sneak some blackeyed peas in there. :yh_think
