you cannot necessarily determine how long someone is online, many people simply remain logged in.

And I don't bother to log out anymore although I turn off my computer at night (does that make a difference to my log in status? Alright, I know it's an obvious question to most people...but not to me :-5 )

I never log off, just for convenience's sake and as for people posting a lot in a short time, well, isn't that what a forum is for? Communicating? For at least a few people, this is one of their few connections to the world.
